Chapter 2: God Save the Quee- This Dude Yasunari

"We will begin." The angel stated, its featureless face staring in his direction. It had no eyes to see with, at least none that he noticed, but there was no doubt in his mind that it was looking right at him.

It was invasive, being looked at like that. It was as if he was being peeled open, layer-by-layer, every single secret being unveiled as he was flayed open under that eye-less gaze.

"Son of Yuriko. You know why you are here." The featureless face said to him in an emotionless tone. Yasunari nodded slightly, that being all he felt he could do at the moment. "You know where you are headed. You know why." It wasn't a question, it was a statement.

Yasunari shivered under the weight of that piercing gaze. He opened his mouth to speak, only to be surprised when his mouth just kept opening and closing like a fish, no sound came out at all.

The angel in the tall-backed chair tilted its head slightly. "Did you just try to lie to me? There is no point in uttering falsehoods. Cross the 2 Divides into the 2 Absolutes, there are no lies, only truths."

Yaz took a deep breath to steel his nerves. The sinking feeling in his gut was a good indication of where exactly he was headed, something which the angel had already confirmed. "Can I ask why?" The featureless face tilted its head again, almost as if it was wondering how to process his question. "I mean, I don't think I was that bad of a person. I never even cheated on my taxes!"

The angel leaned forward across the desk, somehow still towering over him, its eyeless gaze bearing down onto him. "You caused people pain, and you reveled in it. You took pleasure in sadism, and the ruination of others meant absolutely nothing to you."

"Wait, I never-" The rest of what Yaz was about to say was cut off. His mouth moved, but words never came out. He closed his mouth and changed tactics. "Wait, that shouldn't even count! It's not like it actually mattered or anything!"

The angel leaned back into its chair. "Even now, you still show no remorse for your actions. Everything you do has consequences. It is a pity that you still do not comprehend the severity of what you have done." Chains sprung up from the ground, strapping Yasunari tightly into the chair, its barbs ripping through muscle and sinew. "Sinner. You have been judged and found wanting. From this moment forth, you are damned."

The angel's voice, emotionless and passive like some kind of robot, reverberated throughout the room. Yaz saw it lift its hand and move it towards the laptop, with only one thing going through his mind. He closed his eyes. Yasunari had never really been a religious man, but even he had been an atheist he would have started praying right then and there.

--Oh God, I'm sorry!!--

He heard a tap and flinched, waiting for the pain to come…. But it didn't.

Cautiously, he opened his eyes. The angel's head was tilted as it looked at the laptop, almost in confusion, before it put both its hands on it and started typing up a storm.

It paused, right before it tapped the [Enter] key.

When nothing happened, the angel slowly looked up once more at Yaz. His heart felt like it'd stopped beating. If Yasunari hadn't already been dead, he felt like he definitely would've died right at that moment. The silence was more than just heavy, it was crushing. Something was wrong. And as the angel slowly looked at him, somehow, Yasunari knew that he was going to be blamed for it.

He couldn't feel his legs. He couldn't feel his arms or the rest of his body. Yasunari couldn't speak. He couldn't even breathe! It was like someone had reached their arm down his throat and pulled all of his organs up to his throat, leaving him to choke on some vile mash of his own viscera!

The angel's featureless face contorted, before it smoothed. Two seams appeared on the upper half of its face as suddenly, its eyes opened!

Some things were beyond comprehension. They were beyond words, and could only ever be experienced.

Those eyes….Those EYES!!!

They say that the eyes are the window to the soul….what would it be like to look at something that was soulless, and have it stare right back at you?

A burst of light came from behind Yasunari. In fact, it came from behind his right-hand shoulder.

"Semyaza!" The voice behind him thundered. "The Decree has been made. Such is the Will, so is the Way."

The angel, Semyaza, bowed his head towards the thing that was behind Yasunari.. "Such is the Will, so is the Way." It paused. "That of the Will is not ours to question..."

"-but though the answers are not forthright, no one has ever been denied." The voice from behind Yasunari answered. "You wonder why, for this mortal, when his crimes are so grievous?"

There was a small part of Yaz that wanted to sputter and say that he hadn't really done anything that bad, especially nothing to get sent to Hell of all places. Thankfully, the rest of him was smart enough to keep his mouth shut.

Semyaza closed its eyes.

You might be wondering, why would I say that the angel is soulless?

Well, in the Abrahamic faiths (Judaism, Christianity and Islam), God is said to have fashioned Adam out of clay. At that point He then breathed His Spirit into Adam, and that's how the first Human came to life.

So, essentially, the spirit that God breathed into Humans is the "Soul" that people have. I'm assuming that from this is where "free will" the power to choose your own destiny and make your own choices comes from.

Therefore, Humans have a soul and Angels don't. As far as whether or not other races in this world that I'm creating will have one, you'll just have to wait and find out.
