Synopsis

"What are you?" I asked looking at the handsome man in front of me, watching in fascination as his eyes shone bright red. "What am I?" He released with a throaty chuckle that made my stomach swirl. He took one step closer and my heart pounced. He was too close, and too warm. He lifted a finger and ran it down the side of my face before taking a soft grip on my jaw. My brows furrowed from how warm his hands were. But that went down the drain when he leaned closer and whispered into my ear, my body shivering from the contact of his lips on my lobe. "Darling, I am hell." ******** Simple, innocent, bubbly. . . Its just like calling the name: Anastasia Rhodes. Being a literal ray of sunshine, Anastasia has always lived up to others expectations, no matter what it costs. What do they say again? Behind every smile there is a story? Yes, that. Well, there is a story actually, a very rough one. It was one that made Anastasia crave for something nobody wants. In the dark . . . At the edge of a cliff. . . Alone with the night breeze . . . "I just want to die." And you know what they say, 'be careful what you wish for.' Because one thing Death is good at keeping, is a promise.

Chapter 1Prologue: Heavenly Beings

~Prologue: Heavenly Beings.

*Third Person.*

"All angels are heavenly beings." Palyvus' calm voice sent the chaotic lecture hall into several laps of silence.

After scanning his impressively big eyes over the mass of students that had gathered for his lecture, he took two slow steps towards the standing desk and gave them a nod of approval at their peace before switching on the class projector to carry on with his lecture.

Palyvus Graham was already know his impressive - almost magical - influence on his students. Keeping aside the fact that he is a very sharp man, he is a very respected one too. He always has a miraculous way of making his class of over two hundred and fifteen students keep quiet with a simple hush or a calm sentence, the class would be so quiet that they could easily hear his lecture even when he steps away from the stand.

And even though he was in his late forties, he still fancies dyeing his hair in a very light blue color. He always dresses in this casual way but it gives him a strong and powerful aura. Maybe it's the overcoat that he loves wearing as a completion of his look, just like everyday, today, he was wearing everything in an off white color. 'Everything' consisted of a crisp shirt and well iron pants with a scarf looped around his thin neck, and of course, a spotless off white overcoat that completed the look.

The lecture was still going on and somewhere inside the mass of students, Anastasia was focused, head down and taking notes.

Beside Anastasia, an animal like grunt was made by her friend Victoria, this made her cock her head to the side to look at her. Victoria dropped her pen and sunk her fingers inside her blunt bob hair as if she wanted to rip her scalp apart. Anastasia wasn't even surprised, since it was a normal thing Victoria did whenever she was deeply frustrated.

"What's wrong Vicky?" Anastasia asked after a quick glance and returned to taking her notes. Anastasia wasn't really a fan of letting the notes pass her, especially in Palyvus' class.

"It's just the same old reason Stace," Behind Anastasia, Maximo's chilly voice whispered making her shrug her shoulders up as slight goosebumps creeped up her nape.

But he continued anyway.

"She's frustrated because she doesn't understand a thing he says, and to be honest, me neither." He said as he twisted her brown locks in his finger.

And it was just like he said, he couldn't understand a thing because he wasn't also taking notes but rather playing with her hair.

Another voice slipped into the conversation before Max could open his mouth again.

"If you even tried to understand, your tiny brain would burst into bits, Max." Sebastian intercepted.

He was sitting by Anastasia's other side and he had his elbow on the desk while his head was supported by his palm as he calmly took notes.

But from the position he was, since he was using Anastasia's notes to copy his own, his breath also fanned her neck slightly which made her pin the ballpoint of her pen to the notepad and hold down her breath for a few seconds.

And it continued.

"I would've taken that personally if you weren't subjected to living with a stick far up your ass." Max retorted with an unbothered but low whisper. Literally passing heatwaves down her spine. And that did it for her.

"Can you not breathe down my skin?" Anastasia blurted out at once, hitting the tip of her pen twice on the desk to clearly deliver the sparks of her outburst.

There was lapping seconds of awkward silence and then;

"Though it is common parlance to call any heavenly being an angel." Palyvus' voice was once again audible to them, thankfully sizzling down the tension that had started building up between them. "An example is the figure I shall show you."

He flicked the remote towards the projector and a few pictures were displayed on the screen.

Anastasia's brows furrowed when her eyes landed on the screen.

"What the hell is that?" Victoria asked rhetorically, her nose scrunching up in distaste as she looked at it.

The whole class too, it was filled with low murmurs which Palyvus smiled lightly at.

"None of us have seen the face of Death, unless those who died or those that were destined to see the complete chaos that lies ahead their life. But this image right here, is what we refer as the 'Grim Reaper', what we think is Death itself." He said, the smile on his face lingering. "Is Death an angel? Is it not? I'm sure some of you have asked yourselves. What kind of angels takes lives? Well, at least you did know that Death itself is the only thing that holds power to every dimension that is collapsing, right?"

Palyvus said while enlarging one of the many images on the screen. It was a picture of a figure standing. It had a black cloak on and the hood was up, but it's . . . face was showing. It had no nose, no eyes, no lips, it's whole face was a skeleton. But this skeleton doesn't look like someone who died and dried up. It looked like a living person had applied the right makeup too perfectly. It looked too real.

"Doom, despair, destruction, downfall, disaster. Everything that you could think of relating to this, is all Death." Palyvus said, waiting a few seconds to have them write it down. "As you can see, under this image, there is a writing in Latin that says; In qou vivit alii mori. Momento mori."

He zoomed into the writing so they could confirm it and then zoomed it back to it's original size.

"It translates; In whom he lives, others die. Remember you must die."

It was the way he said it so calmly that made Anastasia's skin crawl as she stared back at the image.

The class leaked into serious whispers, everyone was sharing thoughts, weighing down the possibilities of everything being just a myth and nothing else.

"Now it is left for you," Palyvus started again making the whole chatter relapse instantly. "-to tell me if Death is an angel or a demon, in our next class. And of course, this is all history, so no need to get all scared and suspicious. It is just a historic information that we are redeeming for you to allow your brains to remain fresh and-"

His lecture now sounded far away from

Anastasia's ears as she found herself zoning out while staring at the image. The longer she stared, the more the image felt more alive and it's black void eyes were starting to glimmer in her eyes, like a fire being lit at the end of a tunnel, and it got bigger, and bigger, and even bigger.

When the certain darkness threatens to take Oriana away, will the Dragon be able to protect his mate? ----- Excerpt- “If I knew you were my betrothed, I would have killed you the very first moment we met." Arlan's gaze darkened with hatred. “If I knew I was betrothed to you, I would have killed myself before you even killed me!” Oriana mirrored the same emotions as him. He pulled out a dagger and offered it to her. “It’s not too late. Just slit your throat with this and you'll bleed out painlessly.” She accepted the knife, her fingers clutching its handle tightly. The next moment, he was pressed against the wall and the knife was on the right side of his neck. “How about I try it on you first, my betrothed?” “Feel free to try. But when you fail, this knife will first taste your grandpa's blood, then yours.” Anger rose in her eyes, and the next moment, blood was flowing through the right side of his neck. She cut deep enough to severe an important blood vessel. “You should not have challenged me,” she sneered and stepped back, waiting for him to collapse. He simply smirked and brushed his finger along the deep wound on his neck. “Seems like you failed.” She watched the wound on his neck heal on its own and felt shocked to her bones. “You.. what are you?” “Guess?” ----- Instagram- mynovel.20 Facebook- Author mynoveltwenty
