Chapter 42 - Frozen Kingdom [1]

I had lost track of how long we'd been fighting. Ever since the monsters started appearing, we found ourselves caught in an endless battle. Experience screens popped up before me, but I could barely look at them, such was the number of monsters we were facing.

No matter where we looked, there were monsters everywhere. Somehow, we were managing to handle them. Despite the huge quantity, they needed to follow a single path, which made our area attacks easier. Though some flying monsters, like bees, appeared, we were managing to take them down with relative ease.

However, the flying monsters didn't seem to focus on defense. Besides the bees, new creatures like giant birds emerged. They were considerably more resilient, and their beaks possessed impressive destructive power. Unfortunately, we realized this a little too late, and some were caught off guard, having their heads ripped off with a single peck.

Even though we eliminated more of them than we could count, our situation was anything but favorable. No matter how many monsters we annihilated, they kept multiplying. With few people by our side, I honestly didn't know how much longer we could hold out.

"No matter how many of them we take down, it feels like we're not even getting close to the end" Ellen commented beside me, firing a lightning-infused arrow into the sea of enemies ahead of us.

Noelle was also with us, providing assistance with her spirits. Additionally, thanks to her new ability, [Precognition], we were able to anticipate the monsters' movements and direct them to areas where our defenses were weaker. Despite this, it was evident that we wouldn't be able to hold out much longer.

"You think? I'm seriously starting to doubt that this has an end" I replied as I cut down a wolf attempting to leap our defenses.

You defeated [Wolf - Lv - 30]. Experience gained.

You leveled up [34] -> [35] and gained 5 stat points and 1 skill point.

As I glanced away to check my level, a surprise awaited me: I had reached level 35. I was astonished to realize that I had reached this level without even noticing. It just highlights how peculiar this situation is. I've been so immersed in the battle against the countless monsters that I barely noticed my own evolution.

Despite killing the wolf, my field of vision quickly filled with the sight of an endless horde of monsters approaching. There were so many that even trying to count them caused me a headache. However, we had no choice but to keep moving forward. If we stopped, we would be swallowed by the massive crowd closing in on us. It was a truth that everyone here understood, and that's why they persisted in their attacks.

"Everyone, keep up the pace of the attacks! I'm confident we'll emerge victorious if we persist!" Leo proclaimed loudly, so that everyone could hear.

I was sure he shared the same uncertainty about our survival in this place. However, it was imperative to keep everyone standing. If anyone even hesitated to continue attacking, we'd be at risk of being overrun by the monster horde since we didn't have coverage at all points.
