"Lilith…"
He spoke again, his next words completely shattering her heart beyond repair.
"Everything between us… it all ends here."
With a heavy heart, she nodded, her voice barely a whisper as she choked back her tears.
"Fine."
Tears stung his eyes, blurring his vision as he listened to the sound of Lilith's retreating footsteps. Every fiber of his being screamed out in agony, longing to reach out to her, to comfort her in her pain. But he knew that he couldn't, not if it meant putting her in danger.
Amon sat in the suffocating darkness, his mind consumed by a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. Guilt gnawed at his conscience, twisting like a knife in his chest as he replayed the moment he had pushed Lilith away over and over in his mind.
He could still hear the pain in her voice, he could still imagine the tears that had glistened in her eyes as she turned away from him.
