Death's Lover

"Why are you wearing cow head mask? Lilith asks you this question the third time." Amon groaned, tipping his head up. It made the snout of his mask point at the sky, making Lilith giggle as she found the view funny. "It's weird. Lilith thinks you're ugly that's why you're hiding your face." Hearing this, Amon couldn't help but look at her through his mask. If only he wasn't wearing it, Lilith would see how he arched a brow at her statement as he didn't like what she said. "You said it's rude for people to be ignored. Aren't you being rude for making such a remark?" "Oh!" Lilith gasped, making her cuter as she immediately touched her mouth with both of her hands in an attempt to shut herself up. The little girl spoke again, her voice heard even though she talked softly. "Lilith didn't mean to... Lilith is sorry. But Lilith was honest. Doesn't that make Lilith a good girl?" *** Amon, the Grim Reaper, appeared in the mortal realm to fulfill his job in collecting the souls of the dead. However, an unusual event occurred when he was about to collect one dying pregnant woman's soul. She was giving birth right before she died, making Amon panic and worry as her dying wish was for him to save her child! With the Grim Reaper actually a softie and is willing to take care of the infant despite the rule of their job to not interfere in mortal affairs, what lies ahead for Death and his now-growing human, Lilith? *** "Why do you wear that?" "19 years have passed—" Amon started, "—and this is still what you want to ask about?" "Well, yes." Lilith grinned. --- WARNING: Some chapters of this story contain mature R-18 content. Think It's Better

Vampire Gregory and Grim Reaper Amon continued walking on the autumn path, the cracking leaves beneath them sounding with every step they took. The full moon on the sky seemed brighter, making the two think that maybe mystical creatures are doing it so.

The night breeze blew, making some autumn leaves fall from the tree. Gregory stopped in his tracks for a while, getting the Grim Reaper's attention as he asked him a question.

"Are you going back to the Kingdom of Gehenna?"

"Hmm..."

Amon just looked straight ahead of him, staring blankly at the tree before them. The Grim Reaper then recalled why he was out of the kingdom for so long before deciding to go home. Since he left, he had not been home for almost 20 years.

The reason why he left was because he wanted to find out more about himself and how to control his powers. He knew that since birth, he could kill anyone—even immortals—who would look straight into his eyes.

During those 19 years, he had not even learned a clue about himself which made him feel frustrated.

However, his travels made him feel different when instead, he knew more about Lilith.

While he was travelling, he came across the place where he first found Lilith. He remembered that before they left for Gehenna, he buried the mother's body near the tree by the house.

When he came to visit to do an investigation, he was surprised to what he saw and found out.

The grave was empty and upon further inspection, it's as if the grave was dug recently.

He found out about it recently. With Amon being able to walk to and fro in the human world without looking suspicious as he could use disguises, he was asked to talk to civilians in Amon's stead.

Amon cannot be in a disguise. Even if he is, the powers of his eyes are still powerful, indeed unavoidable.

And so, this is where Gregory came in. He asks and works for Amon ever since he saved him from wolves that attacked him as a way of thanks.

Since then, both of them were inseparable and had been together from the moment they met six years ago.

I guess Amon could consider him as a friend. Because despite him hiding his face from him and avoiding him from time to time, Gregory understood him and didn't dare question his ways.

"Amon." Gregory called out once more, calling out his attention one more time. "Are you going back to Gehenna?"

"Oh." Amon turned his body to look at Gregory, his hands in his pocket. "Maybe. Did you find out anything about the empty grave from that woman since she is near that place?"

"Well... no." Gregory scoffed, rolling his eyes at the same time. "Fucking her and eating her other than getting information? Well, I found nothing out during our past dates. She's just convenient to punish for my meal, that's all."

"Hmph." Amon crossed his arms in front of his chest, looking all the more serious. "We should look for clues as soon as possible."

Gregory scratched the back of his head, furrowing his brows together.

"Is this really so important?" the vampire asked, Amon nodding. However, Gregory still asked follow up questions. "I mean... I get it—the grave is empty. During the six years we've been together, you haven't told me much. Don't you yet trust me after everything?"

"No... I do," Amon answered, Gregory letting out a sigh.

"If you do, why don't I feel that you are?" he asked, shaking his head at the same time. "Amon... I even do things for you as a gratitude for you saving my life back then. Yet you don't trust me to tell me why."

"I could say the same," Amon remarked, arching a brow at him at the same time even though most of his facial expressions are blocked by his cow-head mask. "You didn't tell me yet—why you were running away; why you were being chased six years ago."

"Oh, touché..." Gregory smirked. "So it's a win-win situation."

Amon let out a snort followed by a short chuckle. "But that doesn't mean I don't trust you, though."

Gregory's eyebrows furrowed together, wondering what he meant. "Why's that?"

Amon withdrew his hands out of his pocket. With him now crossing his arms in front of his chest, he explained his point, making sure that Gregory would understand what he meant.

"I told you my identity and how crucial my power is. Isn't that something?"

"Oh." Gregory blinked his eyes a few times, remembering what he was told a few months later since their first encounter.

Amon told him that he is a Grim Reaper and that he left the kingdom to search for a clue about his identity since he didn't know much about himself, either.

However, what Amon was curious about is why he was learning more about the empty grave, when it's obviously not about him anymore.

Since Amon is the Grim Reaper, he would have already led the soul to where it needed to go to. So why wonder about the disappearing body?

"Well, it still doesn't make sense, though," Amon commented, scratching the back of his head. "I mean... a Grim Reaper, looking for a corpse? It just doesn't seem right."

"Hmm..."

Amon contemplated for a while, thinking if he should tell Gregory about Lilith and his promise to her dead mother. With a sigh coming out from him, he shrugged, making the vampire wonder what he is thinking about right here and then.

"I know we're friends and all, but somehow, I feel like I don't know much about you."

"I know. I'm sorry." Amon was honest, now feeling bad that Gregory is willing to help him yet he doesn't say much.

Maybe if he opens up to him about Lilith, then maybe Gregory could open about his whereabouts and why he asked for protection from the Grim Reaper as well.

"I think it's better if you see the reason why once we're back in Gehenna. From there, I will tell you what I was worrying about."
