"You assume that all vampires are rich?"
"Well, yes!"
Aidian, Nadia, and Lilith spoke at the same time. The twins and Lilith had been close friends since they were young since they were always together for living in the kingdom of Gehenna.
"Sorry to burst your bubble... but I'm not rich."
"How is that even possible?" Aidan asked, arching a brow at him. "You are immortal and you could like... practically alter and do something about your identity with the help of the law like what my uncle Devin does."
"Oh?" Gregory took a sip of his drink. "Why? What does your uncle do?"
Aidan explained in detail how their uncle Devin had been managing their income.
Martha had been managing everything until Gladios, Angeal's grandfather, came. Ivar was the one who represented Devin since he can show himself to the humans if need be.
Through the years since they came in the human world, they had been involving themselves in investments to keep their wealth.
Because of these investments, Devin had accumulated wealth and Ivar was representing him when it came to business.
In order for them to keep their wealth without being suspicious, every after 30-40 years, they fake deaths and fake names of relatives to make inheritance possible.
Since they have lived in the human world for more than a hundred of years, they are well familiar with legalities and paperwork since they have also been doing it for years.
To inherit, there must be proof of lineage so what these immortals did was fake it. The legalities of inheritance calls for a court proceeding to execute a will. The parties claiming to be the heirs must appear before the court and show documents and recognized proof of identity.
It is not possible to inherit without a real person appearing to claim as recognized heirs so what Ivar and Martha did was hire people to stand as heirs for the procedure protected by a non-disclosure agreement.
"I see, so this is what they did," Gregory commented, nodding in approval as it is indeed a smart move. "And they do it until now?"
"Yes," Dharvey chimed in, continuing to eat her share of meal. "And it has been sustaining them. However, since the ones using his company is now Ivar, it's mostly him doing the work. He lives in the mansion, after all."
"Seems like you all have a very big family," Gregory commented, smiling at them genuinely as he felt slightly jealous of how close they are. "As to me, it's not something possible. I have always been alone and I have no interest in being rich or whatsoever. That is why I'm not the stereotype rich vampy."
"Which is why you are with Amon?" Sicily asked, now curious about the vampire. "You're travelling with the Grim Reaper, so there may be an important reason as to why?"
"Well, nothing actually," Gregory answered, shrugging at the same time. "He saved me so I'm doing him a favor. There's nothing worthwhile to do anyway."
"He saved you?" Lilith asked, cocking her head to the side as she was now further curious about Gregory. "Where and why did he save you?"
"I'm sorry." Gregory immediately apologized. "This is something private to me—even Amon does not know about this."
They all continued to talk. Gregory, since the awkward conversation that Sicily and Lilith had, had managed to make their shift of conversation successful.
Obviously, Gregory is talented in not making things awkward. He's pretty good at redirecting focus. It was as if Sicily and Lilith were not serious a moment ago.
As the twins, Dharvey, Sicily, Lilith, and Gregory discussed amongst each other, Eucraick, Nevin, King Blanc, and Amon had a conversation of their own, too.
"You have no idea how pissed I was when you left," Nevin said, shaking his head in disappointment as he continued slicing his steak.
"It's pretty obvious," Amon said, letting out a chuckle for a short while. "That's why I said nothing about it."
"Which pissed me off more," Nevin remarked, narrowing his eyes at him as he took a piece of meat and then spoke in between chews. "I was scouting you for a reason and then you leave."
"There is no need to scout me," Amon replied, leaning on the rest of his seat. "I told you—I'm set on being this kingdom's Grim Reaper."
"Whatever," Nevin retorted, waving a hand as if to dismiss his reasons. "Anyway, you left for 19 years on a quest to find something out. Have you found out anything?"
"No."
The moment Amon said this, Nevin let out a sigh, rolling his eyes at him again.
"So you wasted your time."
"No." Amon replied, subtly looking at Lilith from across the table as he remembered her right here and then, along with what he had found out. "I still found out about something."
"Which reminds me..." King Blanc then spoke, the men looking at him as they listened. "What is Gregory talking about when he said something about a grave?"
"Tsk..."
Amon clicked his tongue. He was then slightly pissed at Gregory again for being so talkative. He wanted to talk about this in a more private setting but because of him, they had to talk about it during their meal.
With them distracted as of this moment, especially Lilith, then he will get this opportunity to talk about it.
"Grave? What grave?" Nevin looked at Amon, expectant of his answer.
"I think it's linked to Lilith—considering that he sent a letter for the last time temporarily saying that Lilith is to stay and not leave the kingdom."
"Oh?" King Blanc widened his eyes in interest. "Is this true? Are they connected?"
"Wait..." Amon let out a sigh. He felt his vein in his head bulging with the question piling up one over the other. "I will one by one tell you. Listen first."
And with that, the Grim Reaper told the king, his adviser, and Nevin what he had found out. He told them that he went to visit the parent of Lilith's grave to at least pay respect, only to find out that the grave is empty and that it had recently been touched.
It may not be something worrisome... but to Amon, a body not found is something alarming.
Especially if it seemed like it went out on its own.
Do you have any clues as to why these things are happening? ;) I do hope you guys comment what you think below!
