Amon and Lilith descended from the rooftop, their footsteps light on the wooden floors of the mansion. The halls were silent, bathed in the dim glow of the moonlight filtering through the windows.
The house seemed to be holding its breath, the usual creaks and groans of the old building absent, as if it, too, was waiting for what was to come.
When they reached Lilith's door, they hesitated. The air between them was charged with unspoken words and pent-up emotions. Amon's heart pounded, his pulse quickening with every second that passed. He didn't want this night to end. He didn't want to let her go.
"Goodnight, Amon," Lilith said softly, her hand lingering on the doorknob.
"Goodnight, Lilith," he replied, his voice low and husky.
