Floor one is known affectionately as the 'Glowing Death.' A place to sieve out those without luck or quick thinking at its basic level.
The ecosystem centers around the humble slime mold. A single cellular organism that forms tight-knit colonies.
Slimes start their lifecycle safely living as parasites in trees and shrubs. They feed on tree sap until they form a small cluster with other slime cells.
Once large enough, they emerge at night to live as an adult slime. The newly formed colony will digest anything living it can get a hold of.
The adult will grow as it eats and shrink as cells die off. Notable its intelligence is linked to its size. Making the largest of slimes of similar intelligence to a low-ranked species.
Eventually, although breeding conditions are still unknown. A slime colony will 'bloom' into a crystallized state, always in the day, at which point it will burst into air-traveling spores. The spores that land on tree bark and shrub stems will begin the cycle once again.
Fun facts!
*Slime is weak to fire and poison and will sacrifice cells to shed off the harmful substance.*
*Water sources are dangerous for slimes in multiple ways. It can confuse cells and break down a colony. The slime's natural predator, 'gel fish,' also lives in the waters of floor one.*
*Slime is considered a pest. In many worlds, specialists are hired to eradicate them from infested forests. They often use tactics such as clearing infected vegetation or using red slime, a cannibalistic variant of the species.*
