Chapter 38 Sole Heir

"So tell us what brings you here, Raya," Elthon casually spoke her name as if he knew her for long. I sat beside him in complete confusion. The woman was glaring at my direction so I gave her a similar expression in return.

"I wouldn't let you leave the country," she threatened with hurt in her eyes "for killing James without seeking my permission."

"Well who do you think you are?" I laughed a little at her pride. "Do I have to ask a commoner for my personal issues?"

My gaze went from her to the source of the faint noise nearby. Cameras flashed while the security outside tried to contain the crowd from entering the premise. I expected the media to be present during a scandalous event like this. Divided by the thick glass walls between us at a decent distance, they sounded no more than flies buzzing lowly at my ear.

"She is Ms. Raya Zel Cantheliz, Mr. James Zel Cantheliz's other living relative. This is for the investigative process of the alleged euthanasia of Mr. Zel Cantheliz against her

consent and against the legality of that act within the Philippine jurisprudence," the policeman butted in.

I was much surprised at the mention of Zel Cantheliz in her name than the latter. I narrowed my eyes at her a bit more as I wondered about the things I possibly don't know about yet. Who was this woman exactly and what kind of joke is this?

Elthon was quiet and just as I expected him to say something, he burst in low-pitched laughter, "Cut all the arbitrary crap, Raya. This nonsense sound too foolish to me."

I raised my brows in anticipation of what he has to say.

"The court will easily dismiss something like this," Elthon continued. "I have a copy of James Zel Cantheliz's health care plan and the 'best evidence' to acquit my client. You should have brought your lawyer too. I want to hear how he'd pathetically defend you."

Raya crossed her arms. I saw a hint of panic in her face and it made me smile.

"Raya," Elthon sighed. "I'm glad that you still care for James but please, enough of these games."

"I'll still make sure that you Rhio will pay for what you did!" she replied angrily as she finally sat down.

Elthon took some papers out of his suitcase and continued to talk with the officer. I remained silent the whole time at my seat while I wondered how much he knew about this woman. He kept the discussion short and we both left, leaving Raya sourly disappointed.
