Few days ago in Chen Dewei's mansion, Han Meili was extremely agitated. Ever since she came back or to put it more correctly, she was returned, she never received any 'punishment' just yet. The longer she waited, the more her fears heightened.

Yes, there were changes upon arriving back in the mansion. Her room was changed into a decent one. Though she heard that Han Meixiu stayed in one of the most glamorous room in the mansion, she didn't really care. Maybe because of what she experienced, she's now fully aware of her role and position in this place.

The room where Han Meixiu stayed at briefly was shut closed. From her previous room, Han Meili was transferred into a better bedroom that was a lot bigger than before. But she only stayed in the corner most of the time, calming herself and preparing for the upcoming punishment of her failure.

Every time she would hear a knock on the door, her heart would pound loudly as if it wanted to escape from her chest.

If the maids would come, they would simply leave her food on the table and would come back after an hour or so. In most cases, she wouldn't eat unless Chen Dewei's assitant would force her to.

But even that man would not say anything to her about her punishment. He would just order her to eat.

She's not someone who just arrived in the mansion. She knew the Third Young Master Chen's way of 'disciplining' his people who failed their tasks.

Today would probably be the third of fourth day she returned. Like usual, she was occupying the corner part of the bed. Raising all of her senses.

When she heard the knock, she simply thought it was meal time as it sounded faint, clearly from a female's hand. Besides, if someone would be punished, there was no knocking. Men would just barged in and dragged the person out.

Although there was a wall clock inside the room, she never bothered to look at it. She was occupied with her own thoughts.

"Ms. Han, Doctor Su is here to check you. Please fix yourself as soon as possible." The maid politely said.

'Doctor Su? Who is that? Why do I need to see a doctor?' Han Meili thought but she still slowly moved towards the bathroom.

If the maid said she should prepare, then the order must come from him. In this place, the only option that she has was to obey.

The moment she saw her own reflection on the mirror, she almost wanted to pass out. The dark circles around her eyes were very apparent against her pale skin. Her cheeks sunken and lips were dry. Her hair was untidy and there were small bumps near her hairline.

When she was still a young miss she was particularly diligent with maintaining her looks but of course, now those days were just like a century away.

She's tired feeling the same hopelessness over and over again. Her confusion and fear were homogeneously mixed together as she turned on the shower.

As the water drops, the coldness made her gasped. She forgot, it's already winter thus it's already cold. If she get sick, does it really matter? She laughed bitterly.

After adjusting the right temperature, the steamy water finally gave her a sense of calmness.

There were really times she couldn't understand herself. One side, she's very eager to serve Chen Dewei no matter what while on the other side, she's damn scared.

Sometimes, she didn't want to feel any emotions at all. But surprisingly, she could still feel them.

When she was in the hospital pretending to be Han Meixiu, she felt abandoned but she would be lying if she didn't enjoy the little freedom she had that time.

'Pathetic!' She cursed herself.

After fixing herself to look presentable, she went out of the room and found the maid waiting for her outside.

Although she considered herself like a 'prisoner' her basic necessities were given generously. It was just those material things didn't matter to her anymore.

The designer dresses and shoes inside the closet for her to wear as well as the bags worth thousands of dollars, were all meaningless.

Even the jewelries she saw that would be considered beyond gorgeous looked like a piece of trash that's not worthy to be even glanced at.

Upon entering the study room, a female doctor suddenly exclaimed.

"Ms Mei?!? What happened to you?"

Dr. Su was worried after the night the entire mansion was in chaos. She heard that Ms Han went out but eventually came back. But it's been only few days she didn't see the woman and she already looked like this.

Did that event really scared the hell out of her? She looked exhausted as if she wasn't having any sleep at all.

She was forbidden to see her as she was still recuperating. But even though she wanted to argue that she's a doctor and could help, she opted to shut her mouth when she saw Chen Dewei's expression.

Finally she was summoned again to check Ms. Mei.

"Take care of her carefully. I want her to be 'presentable' three days from now." Chen Dewei simply said.

Dr. Su wanted to curse the man. His order meant she must stay for another three days? Didn't she stay long enough?

Han Meili didn't say a single word. She was assessing the situation. When she came in she wanted to greet the doctor as this would be their first time meeting each other. But based from how Dr. Su greeted her, she knew Han Meixiu must have met her before.

When the woman didn't answer nor move to sit, Dr. Su shortened their distance and extended her arms to support her.

"What is your definition of presentable, Third Young Master Chen?" Dr. Su asked neither politely nor rudely.

"Up to you. I'll announce our engagement that day. She must be decent enough to be seen in public with me."

Both of the women were shocked but their reason was different from each other.

Han Meili thought she misheard the man as she abruptly looked at him with her eyes wide opened and her lips abruptly parted.

'Engagement to him?' She didn't receive any punishment but instead she's getting engage to him?

Dr. Su on the other hand was shocked because she thought they already married.

'What is the meaning of that?' Both women retracted their gaze from the man and looked at each other.

Before any of the women could ask a question, Chen Dewei continued.

"I would like to talk her alone." He said looking at Dr. Su.

"Oh sure." Doctor Su answered and excused herself still confused.

"Han Meili, we are going to be engaged. Aren't you happy?" Chen Dewei subtly asked while having that faint smile on his face. The smile that the woman has been admiring since she first saw him.

"But...Third Young Master Chen..." Han Meili couldn't explain her emotions that suddenly became roller coaster. If it was her past self she would have jumped out of joy and maybe cried her eyes out because of happiness.

But she's already not that naive and foolish young mistress anymore.

"Call me Dewei. You should get used to calling me by my name. After all we're bound to be engaged." He continued.
