Embarrassment

"You are eating ice cream, sir? I didn't know you liked these kinds of things too," his secretary said with an awkward smile.

"I paid for it. I might as well finish it," Alexander's voice was cold as he leaned on his car, and closed his eyes, remembering the way Evangeline was so startled in the arcade room.

She didn't even play any games. Her personality definitely comes off as someone who loves sports. She was probably distressed about something. But the look of fear in her eyes, and the way her information is hidden, something doesn't feel right.

He is also sure that any girl with this name isn't entangled with any group of Cane branches. So maybe his assumption about her following him or his brother is wrong.

But he still shouldn't think low of her. She is surely cunning, way more cunning than any girl he has met so far, cunning and beautiful but not vile. That's a rare combination.

"I want you to have one man keep looking into her information. Her relationship with James and Moore should be looked into more. Try to find as much as possible about her previous life. From how things are going, she is going to spend quite some time with my brother, and it's better if I know everything about his friends," Alexander said.

"Secretary -"..." You probably don't even know the name of all the friends he hangs around. Who are you making this excuse to?

"Mr. Alexander,"

Huh, it looks like his mind is constantly filled with her thoughts. Now he is hearing her voice too?

"Hey, I am talking to you," he heard her voice again and turned around.

"What is it?" Alexander asked and looked at the bottom of his ice cream cone that was filled with chocolate with an annoyed expression.

"If you are not eating that, can I?" Evangeline asked shamelessly.

Alexander, who was actually thinking about throwing it, looked at the girl in front of him who was looking at him with a hopeful expression, and extended his hand.

"I really like this part the most in a butterscotch cone -"

"Whatever. Just take it if you want it," Alexander rolled his eyes and looked at the girl who really put the entire small cone in her mouth, her cheeks appearing chubby, making his fingers itch a little as he suppressed the urge to pull them.

"I am sure you didn't come here to ask me for the bottom of my cone," Alexander looked at the secretary, who nodded and walked some distance away from them.

"Can you give me a lift to the Cups and Cookies cafe? I have an interview there at 8, and Justin said you will be going that way," Evangeline asked.

"Even if I am going that way, why do you think I would allow someone in my car to sit with me?" Alexander asked, and Evangeline rolled her eyes before smirking.

"And here I thought you were civil. It looks like I'll just have to ask Justin to give me a lift to the cafe in the opposite direction -"

"Just get in the car," Alexander gritted his teeth.

"What? Why? But how can I expect you to allow just anyone to sit beside you? No. No. I can't make such a big mistake and -" The rest of Evangeline's words stuck in her mouth when Alexander held her hand and pushed her into the backseat of the car before going the other way and sitting inside.

"Stop acting innocent. I know why you brought Justin into this," Alexander said, and Evangeline blinked her eyes innocently.

"What are you suspecting me, Mr. Alexander? I am innocent. I just took his name because he is my friend and probably the only one I can trust here," Evangeline said, and Alexander looked at her from the corner of his eyes before scoffing.

"Yeah, right. You are nothing less than a cute fox,"

"Well, at least I am cute. Shouldn't this be my plus point? I am going for the interview for the barista post. If I get selected, I'll treat you to a coffee. Take it as a thank you from me for the ride," Evangeline smiled, and Alexander looked at her before humming.

"Just like you thanked me for saving now with the ice cream?" Alexander asked, and Evangeline pouted.

"Why do you only look at the negative things? Can't you see that because of me you ate ice cream? Do you usually go to buy ice cream for yourself? And you even treated your brother. I paid for my own ice cream, didn't I?" Evangeline looked at him, and Alexander sighed.

"Fine. It will be on the house. I will pay for that coffee. Happy?" Evangeline asked.

"You better remember your words," Alexander said, his gaze shifting to his tab where he was reading the news.

"Sir, where to?" The driver asked, and both of them realized that they have been so busy arguing that they forgot to tell the driver where to go.

"To the cups and cookie cafe, please. Thank you," Evangeline answered, and Alexander looked at her, not saying anything nonetheless.

When the secretary saw the car moving, he rushed and sat beside the driver before looking at the backseat at the girl they had been trying to find information for.

This was the first time he saw Mr. Alexander allowed someone apart from family and secretary in his car so it came as a shock to him.

Feeling her phone vibrating in her pocket, Evangeline narrowed her eyes and pulled it before looking at the name.

James? Why the hell was he calling her? They talked earlier too, right?

Oh, he must be asking if she settled well in her dorms. How will he react when he finds out that she has an interview in a cafe?

"Are you not going to pick it up?" Alexander asked, and Evangeline looked at her phone before smiling awkwardly.

"Sorry," she whispered and picked up the call.

However, she hadn't expected James to shout the first thing as soon as she would place the device near her ears.

"The hell are you doing, climbing in the same car as Alexander Laurentius? Did that bastard force you?" James's angry voice was so loud that it reached everyone in the car, and Evangeline's ears turned red due to embarrassment.
