Unexpected

When they reached the café, Rose was surprised by the fact that Zane requested the umbrella from the man sitting in the front passenger seat as the car came to a stop in front of the little building.

Rather than parking, the driver just left the engine idling as their boss gave them directive to go and pick up something to eat but be back within the hour. Was he not worried if left alone with her that she might try to take off?

Apparently not as the driver only offered a temporary glance in her direction as Zane stepped out of the before turning to face out the front window again.

Rather than waiting for the other to get out on her own despite the pouring rain, he came around to the other side of the car and opened the door while holding the umbrella over it so that Rose wouldn't get soaked when she stepped.

"You don't have to worry, I'm not a demon. I won't melt that easily from a little bit of rain." He teased when he noticed the uncertain look the woman shot him as she stepped out.

"I'm not concerned over the impact the rain may or may not have on you as much as I am the close proximity there is between us." She replied sharply. She quickly stepped around him once she had gotten out, not waiting for him to follow her with the umbrella as she made her way to the front door of the café.

She had already gotten soaked once already. No point in being fussy over a little bit of rain hitting her again.

The mafia boss didn't say anything else as he followed her inside. He made sure to shake off his umbrella before folding it up so that he could bring it in with him. It seemed as though the rain wasn't going to be letting up any time soon.

Pity Rose wasn't one of his regular companions otherwise he would have been able to justify wasting more time with her just to be able to wait the rain out before he had to get to his next job.

Plus, there would have been nothing that his father would have been able to say to him if he was spending the extra time with a client. Time was money after all and Zane did a good job of brining it in by the plenty when he was with the right people.

They were directed to take a seat by the elder woman manning the front counter and assured that someone would be coming over to take their order shortly.

Rose didn't really want to be stuck sitting at a table with the man standing behind her, but there wasn't much of a choice considering he was there talk with her and seating herself too far away from the young mafioso would create the risk that someone else might overhear their conversation.

"If you're worried about someone hearing what we're going to talk about, why don't you just chose one of those tables back there?" Zane asked from behind causing her to stiffen with how close he was.

She couldn't deny that they were a good set of seats that he had pointed out. Far away from most of the other people and not too close to any windows where someone walking by might be able to catch sight of them.

"I was planning on sitting there already, I was just trying to determine if it would be too much to my disadvantage." Rose replied as she made her way over to the table.

"Never one to take things lightly it would seem." Zane mused as he followed closely behind the other woman.

Even if she wasn't someone that he could spend a lot of time with, she was still proving to be entertaining for the time. If he was lucky, perhaps he wouldn't have to do anything to 'deal' with her depending on the answers that she had for him.

He didn't object when she took the seat that was closest to the wall. He could respect the fact that she wouldn't want to risk having her back to someone like him at any point in time.

"What exactly is it that you wanted to talk with me about now?" Rose asked once they were both seated.

"Patience is a virtue." He tsked as he glanced over in the direction of the front counter when he noticed a woman was approaching from that direction most likely to take their orders.

"Best not to waste the trip here and get something to drink while we talk." Zane told her.

Rose pursed her lips but didn't argue against this. Even though it was already rather later in the afternoon, she did have a bit of a chill from the rain and a warm cup of coffee sounded rather nice.

"Large americano please, two sugars no cream." She ordered first after the woman introduced herself and asked what they wanted.

"Strawberry milkshake please preferably with a little bit of whip cream on top if it is available." His request made Rose raise an eyebrow at him as she seemed to be silently judging him for his drink choice.

"I'm sorry, is there some rule I didn't know about disallowing someone such as myself ordering a milkshake?" Zane asked, raising his own eyebrow as the other continued to look at him.

"No, it's just not exactly what I would have expected." From someone like you was the unspoken part that lingered at the end of her sentence.

"Sometimes you can't judge a book by the cover as much as people would like to." Zane replied.

"Does the same apply to me? I suspect that you sent away the other two because you didn't think that there was reason to worry about me walking away before we finish speaking?" Rose asked as she settled back in the chair with her arms crossed.

Zane smirked in response to her question.

"Not exactly. I didn't think that there was reason to worry about you running or walking away from me if it was just the two of us because I knew that you wouldn't be willing to leave here without this." Rose gaped at the other when he produced her wallet from his jacket packet.

When did he even have time to grab that? She was certain that she had been keeping a close eye on her purse the entire time they were together!

"That's stealing!" She hissed not wanting to make too big of a production as she leaned across the table to try and take it back from him.

"Ah, not so fast." He chuckled as he pulled it back over to his side before she even had a chance to touch it.

"And it's not stealing, just temporarily borrowing it dear Rose. You will get it back as soon as we are done, everything in tact as well I can assure you of that." His assurances did little to remove the glare on her face which she was directing at him with full force.

No matter how much she tried to keep herself together and do what she thought was best, it seemed that the young mafioso was always staying one step ahead of her.
