Becca stopped short and her eyes widened in disbelief. My heart got caught in my throat as our gazes met, but I immediately backed down, fixing my attention to the table. She was here? Of course, she would be here, I ought to have considered that too.
But this was far too soon.
"What's wrong with that one? Why's she behaving like that?" Saffire huffed, irritation seeping into her voice.
"Saffire," I murmured, turning towards her. "We could simply call another servant—"
"No. No, Hiln." Saffire placed a hand on my shoulder and shook her head. "Refreshments, and I need those refreshments now. One more cup of mere water and I am wetting this chair."
