Screw Hope

(POV Amanda)

I walked in the school the next day only to see people asking their partners for The Dance. Boys and girls walking with flowers, people dancing for their partners, people signing up for contests, it's the busy season.

I walked to the Cafeteria and sat on a chair.

" Amanda." Lian came and sat opposite to me. What does he want? I think it's the second time he is talking to me. First time was when I participated in the running relay. I was in his team and he shouted the word 'pass!'

I sat there without giving a reply.

" I was just thinking if you were interested in going to The Dance with me. It's just that my parents really want me to participate in this and every other girls that I know were already taken so I thought why not the girl I least know. And I know that without Godwin, this might be hard for you. But, I hope you have moved on from that."

" I am sorry Lian. I am just not feeling the best after all that our town is going through. I am not ready for it yet."

He nodded his head and smiled. " I can understand. Take your time." He spoke and walked away.

I really felt so bad. I just rejected a decent proposal from a decent boy. But, why did I reject it?

I took my books and walked out of the cafeteria. There was a time when I was busy making so many memories, but now I regret it. All of it hurts me now. I reverted to the old sad, silent girl with only one emotion, 'emptiness'.

" Hey Amanda!" Li called me from the end of the corridor.

" Li?" I turned back hearing his voice.

I slowly walked to him as he walked closer from the other end.

" I painted the truck yesterday, so don't worry, ok? It's going to be fine."

He is making this harder for me with all his nice words and 'looking out for me' thing.

" Thanks Li."

He just stood there looking at me. What is he thinking?

" Li, about the winter dance. Uh.. Did you get a partner?" I asked.

He is never going to ask me to the dance, but things that 'hope' makes you say!

" Caroline asked me."

" And you said?" I waited for his answer.

" I said yes."

There is this moment when you feel like to knock down everything around you and cry like a maniac. This was such a moment. Does he know that he makes me feel miserable? Does he know that it's difficult for me to breathe when he isn't around? Does he know that I would wreck the world to get a single kiss from him?

" Lijah, come on. We have to sign up for Vinlex King and Queen." Caroline spoke from her locker.

He left, leaving me there.

I walked to the class and saw Lian sitting on his chair next to mine.

I took my seat and leaned towards his table.

" Coming to The Dance with me, Lian Smith?" I asked.

He looked at me in surprise which slowly changed to a smile.

" It would be an honor, Amanda Willson."
