14. He Survived

To cut my long story short he did not make it. He had sustained a number of wounds that were severe and died the next day.

He told us that thieves had attacked him on his way home.This happened about a month ago. My family is still grieving.

I saw this patient about two weeks ago when he was admitted here. He had the same blue eyes and hair colour as my brother and I couldn't help but to be fond of him.

He was unconscious for about ten days. The injuries he had sustained from the accident were serious but he healed well and four days later after he woke up, he was discharged.

We couldn't get in touch with his family to come and get him because he could not recollect whom he was or where he was from, except for his name. We had to discharge him anyway since he was okay then.

I had just ended my shift yesterday when I saw him being carried into this room with his clothes soaked in blood. I followed them and watched as the physicians and nurses on duty treated him. He was stabilised and his pulses were also functioning normal.

I left for my home and only resumed my duties as usual this morning. He was among my patients for today but the clinic administrator per the clinic policy does not entertain anyone whose bills remained unsettled.

Hence, what happened this morning. I am scared for him and his child's safety should he be discharged in his state. Knowing he has nothing now, I wonder how he will survive even if he wakes up.

He cannot go to his family because he has lost his memories and with a new life now growing inside him, how depressing will that be for him? I will hate for him to lose his life just like my brother did.", Yu Ran finished, still shedding tears.

"Oh dear. I'm sorry for your loss.", Mama Chi said as she hugged the nurse. The three men found both stories sad but they had on their faces a calm expression. Chi Lan's eyes were red, well you can guess why.

"Yu Ran, can you give me some minutes to get back to you. You go on with your rounds, I'll call for you again. Okay?", Mama Chi said.

"Okay ma'am.", Yu Ran said and left the room.

"Chi Lan, Muchen, come with me. Let's go to that patient's bed to check on him. The two whose names where mentioned followed suit without any question, leaving behind the sick Yuan and his father.

When they got to the bedside, Mama Chi was surprised to see the patient on the bed. He happened to be that accident patient that was put on a stretcher on her way home about two weeks ago as she was returning from her hometown.

He was the one that she had thought was he was a very beautiful young woman. The one she had hoped and prayed for so that he will survive since she returned, whenever that image of him on a stretcher flashed in her mind.

"Oh, he did survive!" She screamed excitedly making everything in the room turned to look at her. "Sorry. I'm sorry.", she apologised and dragged both Muchen and Lan from there till they reached Yuan's bedside.

Immediately they got to Yuan's bed, the whole family all turned to look at Mama Chi.

They know she would want to do something about what she has just heard. It's her second nature.

She just cannot turn down helping someone she believes was genuinely in need. And whatever she decides, their father will automatically agree and so will the kids too.

So now they were all waiting to hear what she will say and they will carry it out immediately.

"Honey. My dears.", she said making sure to get everyone's rapt attention. "I want us to take that may in, at least until he finds his family or until his family finds him!", she sounded excited as she said that, confusing the others.

"Honey, I don't think that it's a good idea. You do not even know him. Why take him home? If this is about helping him, we can just pay his bills.", Papa Chi stated.

"And where will he stay?", Mama Chi countered.

"We can rent a place for him if you want to go to that extent.", Papa Chi answered.

"Honey!", Mama Chi screamed. It seems her excitement has not dwindled yet. "Are you suggesting that we leave a poor pregnant young may, who has no recollection of his past, to stay alone in this dangerous place?!"

Papa Chi was lost for words. He gave up. The other three didn't know what to make of Mama Chi's decision. They see the logical and dangerous aspects of both sides. So they did not have much to contribute.

"Mother, why do you seem somewhat excited after checking on the patient, have you met him before.", Chi Yuan asked.

"It's yes and no. Yes because our vehicle was made to stop as officials carried the accident patients of his vehicle to the capital for treatment. He was the most severely injured and was even carried on a stretcher.

I thought he was a young woman then since he looked so beautiful even in that situation though I was standing afar, I could still tell that this person was very beautiful.

His wounded state got me worrying about him once in a while as to whether or not he had survived the accident. I just felt happy as I saw him on the bed today, knowing he had survived.

I can't explain this to anyone but even that day when I saw him on the stretcher, my heart was aching in pains. I had prayed and hoped that he'll make it.

And today, seeing him again, knowing he has a better chance at surviving now than that time, made my heart swell with happiness.

I really can't explain it but I think I have a connection with him. I believe I can only be at peace when I know that he is doing okay. I don't want to be imagining all sorts scenarios as what could happen to him as I have done these two past weeks.
