Escape

It took me a minute to realize what was happening and what it was in that direction. I run towards the campsite but it's too late, everything is on fire, tens of corpses lying around. I try to not waste more time and go to the woods again but something knocks me out, I never get to see what it was.

When I woke up I'm tied up, next to me it's Optius Lucilius also tied up,

—Nice to see you again, rookie, I mean, Legionary Augustus—. He says with a smirk, his face it's all bloody up and a wound it's crossing his cheek and eye now.

—What it's happening?—I ask.

—Some barbarian witches ambushed us and released the slaves, they killed Centurion Marco and almost everyone, it seems like they did a blood sacrifice or something—

—So what do we do now, Sir?—

— … Well the barbarians normally kill every man and just take the women. Some tribes also keep male slaves, though I don't think that's the case here... That bitches are preparing an altar—.

—So we are going to be sacrificed?—

—Yes. And I don't know you but I prefer dying on my own terms, no like some sacrificial sheep—.

—What I have to do?—

—I give you a signal, and you jump one of those bitches. I almost free myself, Scipio and Flavius are doing the same, just wait a little.

Two minutes later a barbarian woman gets close to us, she is naked with a mask and large dagger in her hand. When she passes me and is barely giving me the back, Optius says now. I was never more scared or determined about something, I jumped up and somehow managed to tackle her even with my hands behind my back. When she falls she tries to stab me but Optius Lucilius rips the dagger from her hands and I bite her neck with all my force making a mess out of her.

Optius cut the ropes from my hands, Flavius and Scipio are also free, we start running, and just a few moments after an arrow pierce Optius head.

—Fuck— Says Scipio, an instantly three arrows hit him in the chest.

—Fuck— He says again lying on the flor with something like a smile on the mouth.

Flavius and I keep running and when we are entering the woods four barbarians appear behind the trees blocking our escape, then three more catch up surrounding us.

Knowing now that death is imminent Flavius looks at me and says "good look rookie" and then jumps unarmed towards the barbarian women in front of us, they stab him to death. I get on my knees not knowing what else to do.
