The special agents obeyed the orders and took care of Felicity easily. They wrapped her in a bedsheet and carried her like a dead pig to the car.
When the group was preparing to transport Commissioner Gordon and Barbara, they encountered a small problem.
The criminals knew these were important figures, so they had tied them up tightly initially. Then, Thea had further secured them with unconventional methods, wrapping them around with chains during the aerial transportation. As a result, the chains were tangled up between them, making it impossible to find a starting point. Several agents were puzzled by the unconventional way the criminals had tied them up.
Fortunately, everyone remained silent and didn't ask too many questions. Thea had already prepared some plausible lies, unwilling to admit that the original restraints had been fairly standard and that she had improvised later. Since no one asked, they could just assume it was the work of the criminals!
Although the four men could have carried the father and daughter away and loaded them into the car, it would have made themselves look incompetent, especially in front of Lyla, a high-ranking member of the organization. It was essential to show their worth. When else would they have the opportunity to perform well?
The leading agent signaled to the others, and soon they entered the room with various power tools such as saws and welding equipment.
The four men worked tirelessly for half an hour before finally managing to remove the chains from Commissioner Gordon and Barbara.
It's worth mentioning that the Commissioner woke up in the last two minutes of having the chains removed. Perhaps due to his many years of being kidnapped by all sorts of criminals throughout his career, he had developed quite the resistance to poisons. However, now that he was older, his body was showing signs of aging, resulting in him being unconscious for such a long time.
When he opened his eyes and saw several men in black holding electric saws and welders near him, he didn't seem surprised at all. Instead, he calmly shouted," Come at me if you want, but don't touch my daughter."
This left the agents confused. Lyla, as their supervisor, quickly explained the situation. However, Gordon's trust in the government was not high. He wondered if they were the ones behind this. Such powerful gas wasn't something ordinary people could get their hands on, making A.R.G.U.S. the most suspicious.
Lyla was both amused and exasperated by his suspicious gaze, which reminded her of her own initial doubts about Thea upon waking up. It seemed to be a common human reaction. Lyla then pulled Thea over to explain the situation to Commissioner Gordon firsthand.
"Thank you, Miss Thea, for your selfless help. I really don't know what to say," Commissioner Gordon remarked. By now, he had assessed the situation and concluded that the people around him were not villains. While the sight of power tools like saws and welding equipment might be intimidating, their purpose was clear – to free them from their restraints. Despite his age, he could still discern such things.
Furthermore, he had a favorable impression of Thea. It made no sense for her to conspire with government agents to tie him and his daughter up. Besides, he believed Thea wouldn't be interested in his family's wealth; after all, she was the heir to a major conglomerate, and she had passed up numerous opportunities for fame and profit. Therefore, her willingness to come to their aid without any ulterior motive made his earlier suspicions seem unwarranted.
However, Commissioner Gordon's quick acceptance of the situation had a certain impact on Lyla. She couldn't help but feel a bit shaken. After all, she had spent considerable effort trying to convince him earlier, only to be met with skepticism. Yet now, with just a few words from someone else, he seemed to accept the truth readily. Did their organization's credibility really sink so low? Commissioner Gordon wasn't just an ordinary citizen; he was the police commissioner of a city with millions of residents, a well-known figure in society.
Layla was already planning to suggest to Amanda that they needed to improve their image. Regardless of the actual situation, at least the facade should be maintained. Otherwise, not to mention the general public, even high-ranking officials won't no longer trust them. What was the point of their organization? It was better to disband and go back to their respective homes.
The four of them arrived in two cars, and Thea, having mostly recovered, did not ride with them but followed behind on her Glider, gliding close to the ground.
The four of them drove in two cars, and Thea had already recovered enough to not ride in their car. Instead, she independently skateboarded close to the ground behind them.
This was Lyla's first time seeing her Glider. She had only heard about it before, but seeing it now, but seeing it in person was truly impressive. While the equipment itself wasn't difficult to make, at least for a government-funded organization like theirs, the real challenge lay in the design concept.
Could this equipment be used in frontline service? Lyla wondered for a moment and felt it was a bit doubtful. Just looking at it, one could tell it was expensive. Having too few would be useless, and deciding who gets them could cause conflicts. And if they needed many, did their organization have that much money?
Thea flew behind the cars for half an hour until they reached a relatively small villa complex. The area was eerily quiet, giving off an air of exclusivity.
"This is our base in Gotham. Please, come inside," Lyla said.
Having rested for half a day, Lyla relied on her young body and high resistance to toxins, allowing her to regain her mobility. This was a stark contrast to her initial state, where she had needed to lean against the wall, looking like someone who ate too much at a buffet.
Commissioner Gordon wasn't quite steady on his feet, but he refused any assistance, instead opting for a makeshift cane, and he slowly made his way inside.
Inside the base, there were dedicated medical personnel who examined the two unconscious individuals. They concluded that the individuals were fine and would wake up soon, but the exact timeframe was uncertain due to the unknown composition of the substance that had caused their unconsciousness.
Blood samples were drawn from the three who had regained consciousness, but until the results were analyzed, no one dared to administer any medication. Instead, they opted to administer intravenous glucose to replenish fluids.
Just as they were about to leave, Thea pulled out the two gas masks from her backpack and handed them over, saying, "These are the masks the thugs were wearing. I'm not sure if they're standard issue or custom-made for a specific purpose. You should have them analyzed as well."
"Analyze them quickly!" Lyla didn't wait for a response and immediately gave the order. She had been through quite a bit today, and she had forgotten why she had initially gone to the campus. She felt she had never been so embarrassed in her life. All she wanted now was to find the mastermind behind it all and deal with them, preferably with a pistol in hand.
Lyla still had work to do, so after a brief moment, she got up and left, leaving Thea and Commissioner Gordon to watch over the two sleeping beauties and speculate on when they would wake up.
In theory, Felicity should have woken up already. She had probably inhaled the least amount among them all. But the doctor said it was related to individual constitution, which made Thea a bit skeptical. After all, Felicity was known for her lack of physical fitness. She never exercised, so who knows how poor her constitution really was.
Barbara, on the other hand, had exercised quite a bit, but she couldn't withstand the large amount she inhaled. Plus she had also been dragged around by Thea for a lap, and now she had a big bump on her forehead. The medical staff had looked at this bump with strange eyes earlier, unable to understand why this girl had been beaten up after everyone else had passed out. In the end, they could only conclude that the thugs were heartless and cruel.
As Thea idly wondered if she should start a betting pool to guess who would wake up first, Felicity did not disappoint the people of Starling City and was the first to regain consciousness.
