Chapter 174

That's when Dio noticed something. There was another flight of stairs going up.

The house only had two floors and a tower, and the tower wasn't big enough to accommodate a staircase.

He thought the tower should be used as a basement.

Dio climbed the stairs again and stopped. He didn't find an attic, but another floor.

Third Floor.

This one was also closed off by double doors, but not made of wood like the first, but rather made of white stone, the same stone as the ground floor.

There was a strange man with long wings carved into the door. Instead of his ear, there was another small wing.

This is Hypnos, the Greek god of sleep.

'Did the Tower turn into another floor?'

'Did the Tower expand?'

It was useless to think about how this house worked yet. Dio left that for later and entered through the white doors.

It was as large as the floor below, with a bed that was larger than any double bed he had ever seen in his life.

It was covered with black sheets and several pillows positioned above a small platform in front of him, below the windows.

Dio didn't touch the bed. It looked so inviting, and he hadn't rested at all since he got back home, so it was best to continue.

The room was quite large, but there wasn't much in it, giving him plenty of space to put what he wanted here.

On the left side was a wardrobe, and on the right, another white stone door, and inside was a surprise.

It was a Thermae, which were public bathhouses in ancient Rome.

There was a stone pool on the ground and several statues of fountains spitting hot water down. This made the ceiling of the bath misty with smoke.

There were Greek columns from floor to ceiling and a place to sit on the left wall.

In front of these benches, there is a small hole in the ground, perhaps for fire and used as a sauna or something like that.

"All right, this is amazing."

"So, does my room really reside in the Tower?"

Dio asked no one in particular aloud.

The House responded.

A simple wooden door appeared on the wall to his left.

Dio walked to it and entered through the door because he was curious to know why there was secrecy.

Then he opened the door and understood.

The House is immensely intelligent.

It knew Dio needed a safe place to do his work and experiments.

It isolated the tower, and the entrance appeared at his request, a single entrance under his total control.

The inside of the tower has a lot of empty space, with empty wooden shelves on the walls.

There is a long table like the one he had in his secret laboratory below the Dreaming. It has a desk further back and a small sink beside it.

The place was well-lit both from the windows and from the chandeliers above, and there was also good ventilation.

Well, that concludes all the floors of the house for now, so it's time to go back.

It must be almost at the limit of the time he gave to his friends outside.

Dio exited through the door.

He had been looking for a place for a long time, and what could be better than a house that moves around and changes whenever its owner wishes?

Dio only needed to learn how to do everything himself, which shouldn't be too hard.

He felt the connection between the House getting stronger as he walked through it just now, and it will strengthen more over time.

"All good?"

Kaldur asked Dio as he exited the house's entrance.

"Perfect, the house is perfect, at least for me."

Dio told him with a smile.

"Can I come in now?"

Kori asked while floating in the air with sparkling eyes.

"Of course..."

Dio didn't finish the sentence when Kori flew in like a rocket and entered through the front door.

She soared around his living room at high speed several times while looking at everything.

"You guys can come in too."

Dio invited the other two, who were more polite and restrained than Kori.

He showed them the whole house except the library. He wanted to save that surprise for Raven later.

They all understood why he liked the house so much, even though their styles were very different.

After that, they returned to the Tower, and Dio packed up the things he had in his room.

The room didn't have much.

Only books and studies were mostly in the underground lab leaving only clothes, some products, and daily things.

Dio called Vanessa while doing this, who didn't answer immediately but called him back ten minutes later.

He put the phone on speaker and packed his things while talking to her.

"Dio, is everything okay?"

Vanessa asked when he pressed the speaker button.

"Why wouldn't it be?"

Dio had only been gone for eight hours, so it shouldn't be a problem.

"You always call me at a certain time, never before, except if you're heading out on a mission or something."

"True, I forgot about that. I recently traveled to a place with a different time zone, so when I got back, I lost track of time."

"Ah, I see. Is everything really okay then?"

"Everything's perfect; you don't need to worry. I even got my own house. I'll take you to have a look at it later."

"That's cool! Is it in the city?"

"Yes,"

Dio replied that it was no problem since the house could move anywhere.

"Another thing, do you remember we talked about the trip I was thinking about some time ago?"

"The one at the diner?"

"Yes, it's happening! In two days!"

Vanessa exclaimed excitedly.

"That's happening faster than expected. Have you prepared everything?"

"Yes, everything's ready. And don't worry, I'll take your guarantee with me."

Vanessa was referring to the small skull.

"How long will you be away?"

"For a month, that's why I want to see you again before I go and to hear your careful talk about the multiple dangers I'll have to watch out for and avoid during the trip."

Vanessa might be joking, but that was exactly what he'd do when he met her.

"How about tomorrow at the restaurant?"

...

The next day, Dio remembered his dream clearly. It was a silly dream, but it was still a dream.

After getting up and taking a few seconds to wake up completely, he had never felt so well-rested.

It was like a small weight had been lifted off him, which was a huge relief.

Morpheus kept his promise.
