16 Chapter 15

"Glad to see that you've fully adapted to your body, Dio."

Diana said to him.

"Batman told you everything already?"

Dio asked and looked at him.

"One of the conditions for releasing you from my guardianship was that you must be able to live in the world of humans without accidentally breaking someone's bones."

Batman replied.

"In any case, it was an incredible feat—getting used to your gift in such a short time. I thought it would take several more months."

Diana replied that she was proud of this fact.

She was not wrong; Dio got used to his gift very quickly and almost without help.

It seems his case is quite unusual.

Diana didn't awaken her abilities overnight like Dio did; hers developed slowly from birth. So, she's always had them.

But for some reason, Dio was late, and when they finally awakened, they grew quickly and reached his current age in just a few hours.

"Diana, now that you're back and I'm completely used to my body, is it time to start training?"

Dio asked hopefully.

"Yes,"

She replied with a smile.

"Finally!"

Dio exclaimed joyfully.

"But first, we need to go to your new home,"

She said something that calmed him down a bit.

"Oh well, you'll like them; they're the ones who helped me when I arrived in the world of mortals."rry

'I don't have anything against being under the care of another family, but it could create some problems, so I'm a little nervous.'

Dio thought about it

"When are we leaving?"

Dio asked her.

"Right now,"

She smiled again and pointed to the black bag on the floor that I hadn't noticed.

"What's this?"

Dio asked and looked at it.

"I took the liberty of packing your bag, Master Dio."

Alfred said as he descended the steps leading to the cave's entrance.

"Thank you, Alfred,"

Dio said this to the kindest man in the city.

"You're welcome,"

Alfred replied with a nod.

'I really liked this butler. He was strict, polite, and kind. He was my only friend here, as the cave's owner left early every evening and busied himself with other matters in the morning.'

"I don't want to sound boring, but what's my legal status?"

Dio asked and looked at Batman.

After what happened at the shelter, Dio immediately ended up here. According to the news Batman told him, Ma Gunn and her gang were arrested, which caused a big uproar in Gotham.

Afterward, the government took over the shelter and started building another one for kids with much-needed money from Wayne Enterprises.

The government was working very well because everyone was focused on this project. This means that the authorities probably want him.

"Don't worry, you're already registered as a protege of Diana's friend."

Batman said.

"Thanks again,"

Dio thanked Batman, and he nodded in response.

'I don't mind being considered missing, not that the GCPD were going to search for me or anything like that.'

'There are some problems with not having legal status in the system.'

"So, shall we go?"

Dio asked Diana.

She nodded and started walking toward one of the cave's tunnels. Meanwhile, Dio took another look at Batman and said, "Thank you for everything."

'He's not a talkative person.'

Dio could stand here pouring out endless thanks, but one sincere word was the best option.

He never smiled; his face showed no emotion, but Dio felt that he had accepted his gratitude, so he looked at the butler who also took care of him.

"Thank you for everything, Alfred."

"You will always be welcome here in the future, sir. Safe travels,"

Alfred replied and politely nodded.

Then Dio slung his bag over his shoulder and walked toward Diana.

The tunnel wasn't very long, and there was no lighting, but that was no longer a problem for him.

Soon, he heard the sound of falling water, and then he saw Diana standing at the end of the cave behind the waterfall.

"This path is usually closed. Batman uses it for guests who can fly."

She said.

"We're going to fly?"

Dio asked.

She just smiled at him, quickly grabbed him, and flew out of the tunnel through the waterfall.

"AHHHH!"

Diana started to quickly increase their speed and height, and Dio screamed in fear. It looks like Diana is enjoying the experience.

Then they fly through the clouds quickly, and she slows them down as they fly.

"Look,"

She said.

Dio was amazed; he can proudly say he didn't close his eyes out of fear. The fear was worth the view that was now before him.

They were above the clouds, and the city below them could not be seen as the clouds were so thick.

The only other thing up there besides them was a commercial plane flying in the opposite direction, several kilometers away.

On the other side, there was the sun. The sun was yellow-orange above the clouds, looking beautiful.

"Haha, they told me I had the same expression on my face when I flew for the first time."

Diana laughed.

They watched this beautiful spectacle for a few minutes.

"Can I speed up?"

Diana asked after a while.

"Yes, as fast as you can."

Dio said, a little confident.

"You asked for it."

Dio didn't regret his request; he just wished he could measure her speed.

He got used to this speed quickly with his new eyes and body, which made the experience even more exciting.

He decided that even if he couldn't fly in the future, he would find a way.

We reached our destination quickly.

Diana was teasing him at the start of their trip, but she wasn't being reckless. She slowly increased her top speed from the beginning of their trip and didn't speed up immediately.

Since Dio wasn't getting impatient, she kept doing this, and they got to their destination in just a few minutes.

It wasn't a very long journey; they flew from Gotham to New Jersey to Washington, D.C.

Diana made sure their path went by many popular city locations, like the Capitol and the White House.

The streets were clean, and the weather was nice and clear.

After taking a short flight away from the city center, simple houses with identical architectural styles and lovely lawns in front of them took the place of the tall buildings and elaborate structures.

Diana began to slow down as we approached a white single-story house to avoid causing panic among the neighbors. She circled around and landed behind the house.

"What do you think of your first flight?"

Diana asked as we walked towards the back door of the house.

"No words can describe it; it was simply incredible."

Dio replied and spoke the honest truth.

"No one ever forgets their first flight."

Diana said it with a smile.
