The First Mission

"What exactly are these documents supposed to be?" I asked, musing over the fact that Penguin had a four man team to get a few documents stolen.

"In this profession, you are not supposed to ask such things," Deadshot said, "We get money and we do what we are asked. More than that and you might be in a lot of trouble."

"Fair," I said.

Only that it wasn't.

Not being aware of the contents was a disaster to get your ass sniped by someone. You might end up picking a job thinking it will be easy and pays high –and to a certain point, it does– only to end up realizing that you are being targeted on a daily basis for taking that job.

Personally?

Professionalism can go and fuck itself, I just want to be as safe as humanly possible.

If I am going after these documents, I need to know the contents.

That being said, the five of us stood hidden at the top of a building, with the sole purpose of being able to figure out the security around the place and the ins and outs around it.

"There are three exits, but it will be difficult to escape the premise more than the villa itself."

Things were made easier for us since we had Deadshot with us. His calculations and measurements were perfect for us and with Slade procuring a blueprint of the villa from god knows where, we had a rough plan of how and where to be once we entered the place.

"It's surrounded by quite a few guards and the worst is possibly the traps laid around the place."

The place belonged to the former mayor of Gotham and was now being resided by one of Penguin's direct competitors.

The documents could be anything from information about that guy to secrets of Gotham, considering it was the mayor's house.

But the main issue was how are we going to get out?

Of course, we will be knocking out most of the guards but the traps were another thing.

And we were also aware that we will be chased the moment we exit the place, that's where Croc and Bane come in.

As for me? Penguin specifically asked me to make sure that the damages are as low as possible as from what he had seen, I can take care of opponents without wrecking the entire place.

Which is obviously something Penguin wants, otherwise he would have sent Bane and Croc alone to thrash the entire place.

"How do we go on about this?" I asked, looking around the place through a pair of binoculars.

"Can you handle the traps?" Slade asked, "Or it will also work if you can make sure that the guards inside are made immobile without them making much noise."

"I can do the latter," I assured, not wanting to bother with the menial and troublesome job of dealing with traps.

"Then we strike once the sun sets," He said, "I'll deal with the traps, you come with me. As for Deadshot, he will handle their long ranges."

Slade looked at Killer Croc and Bane, "You two stay as backup till their heavy hitters arrive."

I raised an eyebrow, "Heavy hitters? Who are we expecting?"

Slade didn't give the answer I was looking for, "You will know."

This was going to be troublesome.

Leaning on the wall next to me, I wondered if I could take the four of them if it was a do or die situation.

Croc? He was massive and monstrously strong but I could be petty enough for him to not even reach me.

Bane was a bit more complex as he was far smarter, but I could block the drug or even change its composition to reduce his strength.

Deadshot was a much easier foe if I could reduce the distance.

But Slade…

The only way to take him down would be through the element of surprise and by keeping my abilities hidden.

As I stood there, I took out the bubble tea that I picked up on my way. It's not like I had the time to have a proper breakfast considering how early they called me.

Only to be told that we will carry out the mission once the sun goes down.

That is a lot of hours if they know how to count.

Seeing me casually taking a sip, Croc bursted out laughing.

"Gahahah! I like this guy!" He said, "This was not the confidence I had when I started."

"Just remember not to mess things on your end," Bane said looking at me, "You are an important part of this mission."

"Don't worry about me," I smirked, "Just make sure to back me up once I leave that expensive marbled building."

This made the drug addict nod, realizing that failure was just not an option.

And this led us to go through the plan a multitude of times, making certain that one mistake and it would turn into an all out bloodbath.

And surprisingly, it turned dark as we kept repeating the strategy, hammering it into Croc so that his urges do not end up screwing things up.

The place lit up, massive lights turning the night into day and armed guards standing atop the guard posts like that shit was a prison.

Not my worry though.

"We go by the sewage system, it opens up right next to their backyard."

At Slade's statement, I sighed. It was decided despite my displeasure that we will enter the campus through the sewage system.

"You better give me full control over what I do in that sewer," I warned, "I am not walking into shit and vomit."

"If you make sure to not harm the overall plan, be my guest."

With that, everyone got into position.

Deadshot positioned himself on the roof which gave him the perfect view that he needed. As for Croc and Bane, the two monsters were ready near the campus in case they were needed to break inside the place.

"What exactly are you going to do?" Slade asked as we lowered ourselves to the drainage.

"Watch."

The sewer was filled with an absolutely abhorrent smell, which was my first priority.

And in order to get rid of that smell, I enchanted the air around us to have the smell of peaches. The smell of the sewer was still strong, so I had no choice but to make the fluids around us lose their foul stench and turn them into aromatic compounds.

"This…" Slade was impressed, "Peaches?"

Nodding at him, I enchanted myself and my clothes to repel things from sticking on to me. There was no way, I was allowing the sludge and dirt to get on my clothes.

As for Slade? He can worry about himself. I already did him a favor by removing the foul stench around us.

Walking through the long ass tunnel, we finally made our way to the backyard of the marbled villa.

"There will be guards right above us, are you sure that you can deal with them?"

I gave him an assuring nod.

"Check how many guards are there," I said, "I will knock them unconscious, but it will only be for a short time. So, make sure to move fast."

Hearing this, Slade used the built in heat sensor in his mask to figure out the exact number of people standing over the sewer.

"There are six right above us and two next to the door to their right," He deduced.

"I'll handle the six, you take care of those two," Saying this, I placed my hand over the garden drainage grate as I knew there was a quick way to make those guards faint without fighting.

Carefully remembering the property of the compound I specifically asked Penguin for, I slowly changed the property of the air around those guards into that compound.

The compound that Penguin presented to me was Neuroxin-X, a potent compound that was similar to Chloroform but much stronger. It had the capability of knocking out anyone in a seconds as compared to Chloroform which took minutes.

However, the disadvantage was that it had a very short life and thus we had to move as fast as possible.

Another reason I picked this compound was because it could not be filtered by usual gas masks.

And this worked marvelously as the moment the gas went inside their masks, they started falling one after the other. They did not even get the time to panic as the gas worked within seconds.

"Now!"

With that, the two of us bursted out of the grill and Slade immediately went towards the doorway, pushing an electric gadget over it.

"That's something…"

And it was, as the moment the two guards heard the noise, their instinct was to open the door. But the moment that they touched the metallic door, the electricity conducted to their bodies, knocking them out cold.

"Maybe wear insulated gloves next time," I felt a chuckle escaping when I saw their fingerless gloves.

Sometimes looking cool can come at a high cost.

In this case, almost their lives.

As for us, we casually moved inside the villa as Deadshot was doing great in taking care of the guards on the guard-posts and roof.

"The front sector has been cleared."

I heard Deadshot announce through the intercoms.

And for us, Slade had taken care of traps, which allowed us to bypass all the security and stand in front of massive safe.

"We might have to explode this." He suggested, but I had something better.

"I can work around it," I assured, and with that I walked right in front of the safe.

Placing my hand over it, I was certain that it was Titanium.

And there was a very easy way to get the things inside of it.

"And here we go–"

In an instant, without changing the chemical compound, I induced the property of sand onto the titanium. And as one would expect, the titanium door became powder and started to fall down.

I could sense Slade's amusement and confusion as he saw me doing such a thing.

Previously he was certain that I was able to change the chemical structure of the air, but with this display he became even more confused.

And as the titanium dust covered the ground, we were left with a massive treasury filled with cold hard cash, gold, jewelry and a few papers.

Ah, reminds me of the good old days when I had such treasuries all around the country filled to the brim.

"We don't have the means to take the gold and cash," Slade said and as much as I wanted to disagreed, I couldn't.

Even if I used my power to find a loophole, it would reveal more than I want about my powers to Slade.

Which is not that big of a thing, but it is still a little inconvenient as I still have to figure out how to use my powers more practically.

So, we had to adjust and make do with the papers.

After all, it was what we were getting paid for anyways.

"Bane," Slade said through the intercom, "Do it."

And that's when we heard a massive boom.

And that's our cue to leave.

Or we would have preferred so, if not for us hearing through the intercom.

"Surrender Bane and Killer Croc!" It was a deep voice, "The Young Justice and I do not want to make this unnecessarily messy!"

Ah shit…

Just when I thought things were moving smoothly.

I was reminded that this was too good to be true.

"As a member of the Justice League, I Green Arrow asks you to cooperate."

Fuck.
