Chapter 92

At the police station, Batman was interrogating the Joker when Kara received the signal to put on her suit and return.

It was labeled an interrogation, but the intensity had already escalated.

Commissioner Gordon was anxiously attempting to open the door to the interrogation room, but Batman had barricaded it with a chair from inside.

Gordon likely regretted allowing Batman to interrogate the Joker alone, especially as he saw Kara approaching, hoping she'd de-escalate the situation. "You have to stop him—he's about to kill the Joker," he urged her, visibly distressed.

Kara glanced at Gordon, a slight smirk playing on her lips.

Gordon, it seemed, didn't realize he had asked the wrong person for help. Batman might not kill the Joker, but the woman standing beside him was far more dangerous.

Kara turned her gaze toward the interrogation room. The room was outfitted with one-way glass, allowing the outside to see in while remaining unseen. Sound flowed only from within the room; those inside were unaware of any commotion outside.

Kara sized up the chair wedged against the door, deciding against any request to Batman. Instead, she calmly approached the glass panel.

Before Gordon or the officers nearby could react, Kara raised her right hand and drove it powerfully through the thick, reinforced glass.

The officers stared, stunned. This was bulletproof glass, the type that resisted even gunfire, now shattered in seconds by a single punch.

Kara didn't wait for the shock to fade; she jumped through the opening she'd created.

Inside, Batman had the Joker pinned against the wall. "Tell me where Rachel and Harvey are!" he demanded, voice seething with anger.

The Joker, rather than responding, glanced over at Kara with a mocking grin.

Even with Batman's mounting fury—fueled by concern for Rachel, his long-time friend and former love—the Joker was unphased, treating the entire situation as entertainment.

Without hesitation, Kara addressed Batman. "Move aside," she said simply.

At first, Batman began to step away, but he quickly recovered, moving to block Kara with his own body. "What do you plan to do?" he asked, tone guarded.

Kara's response was casual, almost amused. "Calm down. I'm not going to kill him—not in front of Gordon. I don't plan on turning from a hero to a criminal tonight."

Batman hesitated, then stepped aside, allowing her to take over.

Kara faced the Joker directly. "Let's cut to the chase. I have no patience for your games. Tell me where they are. We all know your goal isn't to kill them outright; if you'd wanted that, you wouldn't be playing this twisted little game."

The Joker's gaze lingered on her, his grin widening before he finally spoke. He rattled off two addresses, adding, "But you'd better hurry. Time's not on your side."

Kara dismissed his comment with a wave. "That's not your concern." She then turned to Batman. "Which one are you going to save?"

Without a pause, Batman replied, "Harvey." He'd told Rachel earlier that their romantic relationship had ended; though she'd been a lifelong friend, his commitment lay with saving Gotham's hope for justice.

Kara simply shrugged and prepared to move out.

Batman followed closely, both of them opting to exit through the shattered window rather than letting Gordon out of the locked room.

As they began to leave, the Joker's voice echoed from behind, taunting them, "Did I ever say there were only two victims? Commissioner Gordon has a family too, after all…"

The room went still. Every gaze turned to Gordon, whose expression tightened with horror.

The Joker's grin only grew wider. "Why so serious? It's just a game. With two Bat-men on the board, you have some choices to make. Rachel? Harvey? Little James Gordon? Or his wife, perhaps?"

"You're insane!" Gordon yelled, slamming his fist against the remaining glass. But unlike Kara, he lacked the strength to break through, and the glass remained intact as his knuckles bruised.

Batman, feeling the weight of the Joker's twisted game, realized what was happening. The Joker was testing them—himself, Kara, Gordon, and everyone involved. He'd forced them into an impossible decision.

Kara, sensing the hesitation, stepped forward. "Let me handle it," she said with firm resolve. "You don't have to choose, Batman. Just go after Harvey. I'll take care of the others."

Batman opened his mouth to argue, but Kara cut him off. "No time to argue. Trust me—I wouldn't be offering if I wasn't sure I could do it."

The Joker gave a smug reminder from behind. "I never actually gave you the Gordons' address," he taunted. "And I don't intend to make it easy."

Kara's responding smile was cold. "I don't need it," she replied smoothly before walking out.

Batman moved quickly to follow, still unable to shake his worry. "Are you certain?"

Kara's voice was steady, reassuring. "Absolutely. But after this, you're going to leave Joker alone with me. Ten minutes—no more, no less. And trust me, it'll be worth it."
