Chapter 139

Kara's sudden arrival, especially her incredible speed, caught everyone by surprise.

Fortunately, there was no one else in the room besides Bruce Wayne, Jennifer Walters, Alfred Pennyworth, and a young boy.

When Kara entered, she had already scanned the surroundings and ensured there were no outsiders present, which explained her bold and rapid approach.

At that moment, Kara's gaze fell on the boy.

She instantly recognized him as Damian Wayne, Bruce's eldest son—whom she jokingly referred to as "Rice."

"I held him when he was just a baby. I can't believe how much he's grown," Kara said with a hint of emotion.

Jennifer smiled and waved to Damian. "Come here, sweetheart. This is the person I've been telling you about—your other mother."

Damian, only five years old, looked at Kara timidly. After a moment of hesitation, his small steps brought him closer. Standing before her, he tilted his head up to meet the towering figure of the 1.9-meter-tall Kara.

"Are you really my other mom?" he asked curiously.

Kara knelt to his level, her heart swelling with joy as she opened her arms to hug him. "That's right, dear Rice. I was the first person to hold you when you were born."

Kara's mind traveled back to the day she had accompanied Jennifer through labor. She had been the one to cradle Damian first, and the nickname "Rice" had been her creation.

Damian glanced uncertainly at his biological mother, seeking silent approval.

Jennifer ruffled his dark hair affectionately. "It's okay, darling. Think of her as your other mom. She loves you just as much as I do."

Jennifer knew Kara was fiercely independent. The idea of Kara settling down with someone, let alone a man, was practically unthinkable. Even Bruce Wayne, despite his charisma and intellect, had never caught Kara's eye.

Jennifer mused that if no man on Earth or beyond could impress Kara, she might as well make her an honorary co-parent. After all, Kara had risked her life countless times for both her and Damian. Their bond was deeper than words.

While Kara and Jennifer led Damian to a couch to chat, Bruce and Alfred exchanged amused glances.

"Master Bruce," Alfred said dryly, "while Miss Kara may be Young Master Damian's second mother, I'd advise against considering her your second wife. You may not survive the attempt."

Bruce smirked. "Trust me, Alfred. I'm quite fond of living."

Kara, overhearing their banter, shot them a sidelong glance. Her eyes narrowed briefly, but she decided to let it slide.

Jennifer shifted the conversation back to Kara. "So, Dani told me you turned green and flew into space. What happened?"

Kara chuckled, scratching the back of her head. "Well, it's true. I did head out to space, and I had a little encounter with some aliens."

Jennifer's brows furrowed. "Aliens? Real aliens?"

Bruce, his demeanor instantly serious, joined the conversation. "If extraterrestrial life exists, Earth could be at risk. Our technology isn't advanced enough to defend against an invasion."

Kara held back a sigh. If only they knew an alien was already sitting in the room.

"Ahem," she said, clearing her throat. "There's no need to panic. Earth is under the protection of the Asgardians and their powerful intergalactic legion. They watch over countless planets, including ours. And if that's not enough," she flexed her arm playfully, "there's always me. Any invader would regret crossing me."

Despite her reassurance, Bruce and Jennifer exchanged uneasy looks.

At that moment, Alfred returned, pushing a cart laden with refreshments.

"I believe you'd all enjoy a drink while chatting," Alfred announced, before turning to Damian. "And young master, it's time for bed. You've got school tomorrow."

As Damian was led upstairs, Kara watched his small figure with wistful eyes, already missing him.

Jennifer noticed and teased, "If you love my little Rice so much, why not stay a few more days?"

Kara shook her head, smiling. "As much as I'd love to, I need to check in with my parents. They've been worried about my whereabouts. Plus, I've been AWOL from my job at the Daily Planet for five years. If Perry hasn't already fired me, I'll need to beg for my position back."

The three sat at the table, raising their glasses to toast Kara's return.

During their conversation, Kara learned some significant updates. Jennifer and Bruce had married a few years earlier, even before Rachel and Harvey Dent tied the knot.

She also found out that Harvey and Rachel had moved to another city, hoping to start fresh.

Lastly, Bruce delivered a piece of grim news.

"The Joker has escaped," Bruce stated, his voice grave.

Kara raised an eyebrow but remained unfazed. "Is that really a surprise? No one actually expects Arkham to hold anyone permanently, right? Let's just hope it lasts at least a year this time."

As Alfred silently cleared the table, Bruce, Jennifer, and Kara continued to strategize, their bond as allies and friends unshaken despite the ever-present chaos of Gotham.
