Chapter 13

As I stood before Greengrass, as cool as a cucumber… I was kinda fanboying over myself doing a Xavier.

Sure I didn't have a high opinion on the bald wheels, but this felt less like Xavier and more like Patrick Stewart or James McAvoy, which made this far too awesome.

Though from Daphne's fear filled eyes, I was starting to think that she didn't think that this was awesome.

Oh well, she would learn. Everyone did eventually.

"H-H-How?!" She stuttered out with fear, which was probably the most expressive thing she did since the school year started.

"Come now, Daphne. Don't tell me you thought that you were the only one who could use some mind tricks." I said with a wiggle of my eyebrows. Which somehow seemed to unnerve her even further, what was wrong with this girl? It's like she never actually had a proper telepathic experience.

Which she likely didn't since from what I have found out in library, mind arts beyond occlumency was considered to be illegal unless you had a license for it. Like owning a gun. Except everyone in the community already had a weapon that was far superior to a gun when it came to killing since they were eleven.

Getting off point.

"I guess it is rare among the magical folk but I assure you, you and I are not the only gifted ones." I said and surprisingly, all the fear in Daphne's eyes disappeared. Only to be replaced by rage.

"Gift? Gift!? GIFT?! Every day I have to keep mental shield up with all my concentration simply so that I don't have to listen to the thoughts of other people! Every time I relax, even if only for a moment, the thoughts of others start to invade my head! I can't even have a proper sleep because of all that noise! What about this is a gift?!" She yelled out and I had to admit, I was kinda shocked. Didn't think that she would get mad like this, or that her problems with her telepathy was that serious.

Gotta do some damage control.

"Trust me, Daphne. All of those things are merely a result of… poor education. Your ability is a gift, a proof that you're special." I said as I put the 'trust-me' psychic field around me to a max. Making myself seem like a person that one should trust without outright controlling their minds.

"Poor education… I spent years training in Occlumency. Every day, every night… how is that 'poor education'?" She said with a defeated look but at least she wasn't outraged anymore. This was easier to deal with.

"Because you were trying to see your gift as merely some sort of talent in mind arts. The gift you possess, it's source is not your magic." I said and she looked at me with shock.

"…how?" She whispered, her voice filled with desire for answers.

Now we were getting somewhere.

Daphne Greengrass was having, what was probably, the second strangest day of her life. It still wasn't on the level of the day she started to hear thoughts that didn't belong to her in her head but it was getting pretty damn close.

Jonathan Reed Richards… as far as she had cared he was merely a student. A very talented student if what she had overheard from the teachers was correct but a student all the same. Even if Violet Potter had a rather disturbing crush on him.

Now that she thought about it, he also was the sole student in her year whose thoughts she never heard. She had simply thought that it was a coincidence of a case of her barriers getting better. But it seems like it was his own… 'telepathy' that had kept her out of his mind.

After her shock, fear and rage had dimmed and she calmed down; he started to explain her situation. And what an explanation that was.

He said that she was a metahuman. A subspecies of muggles who could use extraordinary abilities without the aid of magic. Like very specialized spells that they could use.

He claimed that the abilities of these individuals varied to the extreme. It could be something as unimpressive as changing colors of your eyes to more impressive things like unsupported flight or even strength to bench press buildings without any discomfort.

And of course, the power to interact with the minds of others through the power of your own mind, telepathy. Her gift.

Jonathan told her about the possibilities that one had when they possessed a gift such as hers. Communication through mass distances, the manipulation of others' minds, the ability to take information for yourself and even constructs made out of mental energy.

It was… seductive. The kind of power that she had the potential for. And Jonathan had claimed that the fact that her powers still working through the, admittedly, insufficient barriers and still take thoughts in without her having any training in it meant that she wasn't merely a telepath but a very powerful telepath.

"And… you are the same?" She couldn't stop the hope she felt leak into her voice.

"Yes… and no. The power I hold isn't merely limited to telepathy." He said and then he started to levitate, then random objects around them started to do the same and lastly; she started to levitate herself.

"Telekinesis, the mental power to physically affect matter around us through the power of my mind." He revealed.

"Admittedly less… trained compared to my telepathy. But still a powerful ability." He said, only once more his lips didn't move. He was speaking to her mind.

She liked this. Him being the only voice in her head. No more chaos of the thoughts of others invading her mind. The silence that everyone enjoyed but her until now.

"Is it possible… to learn more of this power?" She asked, a primal hunger in her voice.

"Not from a mere wizard." He smiled at her and she decided that… she didn't dislike it.
