a nice night with barbra and the reality behind dating a superhero (chapter 16)

Chapter 16

Inside the workshop, Ted could be seen, meticulously wrapping a strip of leather around the handle of the knife. As he tightened the strap, the blade revealed the runic letter 'S,' occasionally emanating a soothing blue glow. Ted finished securing the handle, then examined the knife's description.

[ Name: Blade of Sharpness (lower) ]

[ Type: Enchantment ]

[ Rune-Slots: 1/1 ]

[ Description: A handmade knife crafted by a novice blacksmith, now enhanced by a rune carver with a rune that sharpens its edge to an exceptional degree. The knife becomes razor-sharp, capable of slicing through almost anything with minimal effort. It maintains its sharpness for an extended period, reducing the need for frequent sharpening ]

[ Durability: 89 /89 ]

Satisfied, Ted took an A4 sheet of paper and effortlessly sliced it in half. "Oh yeah, this is it. This is going to make cutting wood a lot easier," he remarked. Ted had created a rune and handcrafted a knife for the specific purpose of cutting wood. "Since wood is the most rune-carvable item, it would make a great disposable runic item without requiring heaps of money, time, and energy," he mused. Admiring the knife, he suddenly remembered something.

Swiftly taking out his dimensional pouch, now devoid of all crystals, Ted sighed. He retrieved the teleportation cube before stowing it away again, contemplating, "Anything can happen in the gemworld. I will go there after I prepare myself." After regaining composure, he stowed the knife in the pouch. A message from his hand caught his attention.

[Barbra: Wanna slice of pizza with extra cheese?]

[Barbra: Never mind, I got you some Doritos.]

Ted chuckled as he replied, [Ted: Why not both?], receiving a smiling emoji in response.

On a familiar rooftop, Ted and Barbra sat, devouring a whole pizza, and Barbra had a burst of laughter. "You know, I actually think you might be a superhero," Ted said, causing Barbra to nearly choke on her pizza slice. "What gave you that idea?" she asked, looking at him oddly. "Don't know, just imagine. But then again, it wouldn't be a good idea," he said, surprising Barbra, who inquired.

"Why? Wouldn't it be dope to have a superhero friend that beats up bad guys?" she asked, finishing her food. Ted shrugged, "It would, and it will be kind of exciting for the first month or so. But then it would be pretty apparent that you will always come right after fighting evil," he said, chewing thoughtfully, leaving Barbra contemplating.

"But then, it would be kind of selfish to ask someone to be their number 1 priority, not to mention a superhero, even if you are in a relationship with them," he said, making Barbra ponder. "I mean, is it, though? Asking someone to be their number 1 priority?" she asked, and Ted shrugged, "Yep, but I really won't be interested in dating a superhero, so..." This revelation surprised the red-haired Barbra.

"Even if it's Wonder Woman?" she asked, fully expecting Ted to be intrigued. "Nope," he answered shortly. "Ah, most boys say they would do anything to get with Wonder Woman," she said in surprise, taking another bite of pizza. "Yeah, well, she isn't my type. She is too authoritarian for my liking," he explained, pausing as he suddenly looked up. He noticed a silver light shining in the moonlit sky, visible through a hole in the pollution cloud.

This created a scene where Ted's bright orange eyes illuminated under the moonlight, and his brown hair rustled in the wind, causing Barbra to be stunned as she took in the view. The moon bathed the surroundings in a silvery glow, casting shadows that danced around Ted's figure. The night air carried a gentle breeze, whispering through the leaves of nearby trees, adding a touch of mystique to the moment. Barbra found herself captivated by the ethereal scene before her.

She seemed to be stuck, mesmerized by the sight, before she quickly shook her head and asked, "Then, what is your type?" Ted, nonchalant, shrugged before turning his attention to the last slice of pizza in the box. "Well, I haven't experimented nearly enough to know what my type is, so hopefully, I will have an idea soon," he said with a smile.

As he thought back to fantasizing about adventures in different realms and dimensions, fighting diverse creatures and meeting various species of people, Barbra interrupted his thoughts. "Hello, earth to Ted," she exclaimed, bringing him back to reality. Chuckling, he responded, "Anyways, this was really great, Ted, but I gotta go, emergency." Ted smiled, "Like I said, you are definitely a superhero," as he began packing the several pizza boxes.

"Well, if I was a superhero, then who would I be?" she asked as she also got up, and they both stretched simultaneously. "Well, I was thinking Batgirl," he said, flashing her a knowing smile before leaving. Barbra remained stunned, watching him depart, until the sound of someone forcefully coughing snapped her out of her reverie.

"If you stare any longer, you might actually burn a hole in the back of his shirt," a familiar voice teased. Recognizing the voice, she turned back to see Nightwing, the boy wonder. "There you are. Let's go; we have some furries to catch," she said, and Nightwing followed her as they traversed from one rooftop to another. "So who is your friend over there?" he asked as Barbra sighed.

"Oh, Ted. He is an interesting person, plus, he helps me unwind sometimes," she admitted. Nightwing shrugged, "And what does he get out of it?" This question surprised Barbra, and she stopped. "What?" she asked. "I mean, come on, you know he is expecting something from this situationship," he said. Barbra sighed, "He is not interested in me, and plus, you already heard, he is not into heroes," as she leaped off the rooftop they were on.

Inside the shop, Ted could be seen packing several rations of wood and water, feeling the texture of the pouch as he considered his essentials for camping. The small shop was filled with the scent of aged wood, and the dim lighting created a cozy atmosphere. The shelves were neatly arranged, showcasing various artifacts and magical items. Another spacious pouch, now empty, hung at his side as he pondered his complex schedule.

Ted shook his head, refocusing, as he took out the teleportation cube. "Alright, to the gemworld," he said with a childish tone. Suddenly, the blue light from the teleportation cube flickered with a red hue, and Ted immediately felt a huge and crushing downward force, pinning him to the ground. The weight on his back felt like thousands of tons, and he nearly vomited. Something worse happened; deep within him, *CRACK CRACK* — the sound of glass cracking echoed as Ted's eyes immediately went white.
