"Dr. Rodriguez! Can you do something about this? Your friend has called over 60 times this week. The reception staff are about to go insane..."
"Mrs Miller! Please have some compassion for me too! This friend of mine has already done his 10th therapy session this week, he's practically driving me insane..." Shiller stood by the table, clutching his forehead as he spoke to Mrs. Miller.
Mrs. Miller sighed, "Can't you refuse him?"
"I wanted to, but he's a mental patient."
"So what?" Mrs. Miller squinted at Shiller. Shiller was taken aback by her tone and then said, "... Isn't this a mental hospital?"
Mrs. Miller was stunned, she lowered her head and muttered, "Oh, right, this is a mental hospital. Can't he be institutionalised?"
"My God, his daily commute is as annoying as it is. If he moves in..."
"Didn't he stay here before? I've seen him in the inpatient department."
"It's different this time. He was merely a madman before, but now he's a drunk madman."
Shiller let out a sigh. He gestured Mrs. Miller to wait. He picked up the phone from the table and asked Brand, "Didn't you say there was a new head physician coming last week? Where is he?"
"...What? He only sent in a resume... It wasn't accepted? Why wasn't it accepted? ...Alright, I'll call him and find out."
Shiller hung up, continued dialling another number and picked up the receiver. He said to the person on the other end, "Hello? Bruce, wasn't there someone who applied to be the head physician at Arkham Psychiatric Hospital last week? Did his resume go to you?"
Bruce on the other line was silent for a moment, and then said: "The Wayne Family indeed holds shares in Arkham Psychiatric Hospital. I received the job application and rejected it directly..."
"Why did you reject it?"
Bruce fell silent again, not quite understanding Shiller's tone. After all, wasn't someone applying for the head physician post a threat to Shiller's livelihood?
"...Alright, Bruce, I know you meant well, but it's totally unnecessary. I'm just a University Professor to begin with. I am serving as the head physician here just because Brand is overwhelmed with work. I wish I could get a new doctor..."
"Really?" Bruce was sceptical. As far as he could tell, Shiller was very much enjoying his job.
Shiller held the receiver, proclaiming confidently: "If you think I'm enthusiastic about this job, you're definitely mistaken. At least for now, I just want to leave..."
"Alright then, I'll..."
Bruce couldn't finish his words as Shiller had hung up the phone on him, hearing a burst of crazy laughter coming from the other end.
Watching the clumsy Jack climbing in from the balcony, Shiller quickly pushed Mrs. Miller out, closed the door, drew the curtains around, and finally, walked to the balcony. Jack saw him coming and waved, "Good morning, my friend!"
At this point, he was halfway through climbing the balcony, one leg in and the other still dangling outside. Shiller crossed his arms and said, "Do you know what I want to do?"
"What? Punch me? Hey! You can't do that, we've been having really good conversations lately, haven't we? My friend! Where did we leave off yesterday... oh the Baroque style, you're probably free this afternoon, right? I'm feeling the noodles I had for lunch coming back up, what did you eat? The patterns in naturalist decor make me think of the bat... Bat! Bat? ..."
Shiller took a deep breath and muttered to himself, "I am a doctor, I am a doctor, doctors should not hit their patients..."
This situation all started one night when Shiller and Joker got drunk.
Alcohol didn't affect either Shiller's or Joker's minds much, they could consume vast amounts without any issues, regardless of how strong the alcohol was. But that was in respect to ordinary alcohol.
Shiller had noticed a thing earlier, the fear toxin concentrate, high-purity brain active agent extracted from Fear venom, Lizard serum injections, purified Eternal Life Factor, all these substances existed in liquid form which led him to a bold idea, and using Connors, he turned it into reality.
He had Connors mix all these liquids.
Shiller called it "Mad Liquor".
It absorbed all of the properties of these substances, incorporating their strengths and compensating for their weaknesses. It transformed the fear caused by the fear toxin concentrate into a form of excitement and madness, reaching a level capable of causing physical changes to the brain. However, due to the presence of the Lizard serum, the brain could continuously repair itself.
For an ordinary person, taking such a drug constituted the world's most terrifying form of torture, as their brain simulated all kinds of feelings without them being physically harmed. However, for certain individuals, it was a delicious, strong alcohol.
Shiller had been wanting to try it, but feared being drunk so finally he pulled in a drinking buddy, Jack. One night, they downed an entire bottle.
