57: Guard

When Wade received the scrolls, his hands dipped. They seemed to be made of some unknown material with an extremely high density.

Casually flipping to a green coloured formula sheet, Wade was intimidated by the numerous scribbles of the ingredients required.

"Nether Spirit Flower, Seven Sun Grass... The poison sac of a Human-Faced Spider...The hair of a resentful ghost..."

Wade had never even heard of over half of the ingredients listed there. As for the remaining one-third, they were precious treasures even to Sages, and looking at them made Wade's eyelids flutter wildly.

"How is it? You're shocked, right? I had the same expression as you when I first saw them too! However, if you were to brew a potion in accordance with the ingredients listed, I dare say that it would be useful even for an official Sage!" Fred smiled a little

Wade flipped through several other formulas. He tried to find something that would suit the level of an acolyte and would have the easiest to obtain ingredients.

A good half an hour later, he had barely managed to sift through and find two.

"I'll just take these two, the Enrich Potion and the Medusa serum!"

These two potions were better suited to Wade's current conditions.

"Alright! These two potion formulas suit you well!" Fred nodded his head, "Each one is 250 Magic Crystals, so the total would be 500 Magic Crystals!"

Although this was a dozen times cheaper than a potion formula for raising Spiritu, Wade still felt a little heartache.

He drew out all of the Magic Crystals in his pockets, and the Magic Crystals clattered and piled up into a small mound in front of Fred.

Within this mound, there were several pieces with greater energy undulations. These were mid-grade Magic Crystals, and the value of one was equal to ten regular Magic Crystals.

"There are 440 Magic Crystals here, and I'll add this basic potion of Curse removal!" Wade wore a look of reluctance as he drew out a small cloth pouch from his robes. After opening it, there lay a test tube of silver-colour on the table.

This was something that he had made just last week under the persuasion or Croc when he said that they were in demand. Even though he had made two of them he sold one to Croc and left another one for himself for future use.

"Oh! Curse removal potion. Good it is in rather good demand right now. I estimate it to be worth about 60 Magic Crystals." Fred's eyes shone as he inspected the test tube.

"The trade has been established! These two formulas are now yours!" Fred smiled and nodded his head.

"Wade, I know you feel a little bad after losing all your magic crystal right," Fred said.

"No mentor! It is an equivalent exchange how can I have such taught's on my path to Sage"

'You don't have to agree, I was like you when I first came to the academy to become a sage and I also tried to buy such formulas so that I can speed up my progress." saying so he started to think about his past.

Wade knew not to disturb his mentor at such times, as after he remembers his past he would usually get emotional and give some good advises for their path.

"Oh!! I obviously took longer than you than to reach Rank 3," Fred said suddenly with self-depreciation

"Wade, do you want a method not only to earn more magic crystal but also to earn a large amount of academic points?" Fred asked.

"Mentor, please show me the way!" he almost went forward to massage his arms to make him spill the way.

"You do know of the missions which make you go to the underground regions to hunt for the subterranean being's right," Fred asked.

"Yes, Mentor" Wade replied.

He had heard about this from Sam but not too much in detail, as at that time Sam was in some kind of hurry and didn't provide full information.

"We all Academy's have our own base camp in the subterranean world. Rather than a camp, it would be better to call it a city.

What you have to do is to take a mission to go there and become part of the guardian group of the city.

I can help you get into the Guardian group but that is all I can do, after that everything depends on your work." Fred said.

"Mentor, what are the benefits of this" Wade asked straightforwardly.

"I knew you would ask," Fred said with a smile.

"When you join the group, all the items that you need to buy are given discount based on your rank.

Based on my memory there is the lowest level 1 guard who get 5% discount. This goes all the way till level 4 who can have a 20% discount.

After that is the captain who can get 30% discount. Other than that you don't need to know because to get promotion above captain you need to be a Sage.

Other than the discounts the second most promising thing about joining this group is that every mission provides a huge amount of academic points.

Hell!! Even if you just make a routine check of the city with your squad you would get academic points. Well, there are also cons such as, you cannot deny any of the missions but that is only for the one's at your danger level.

As you are a Rank 3 apprentice you can easily become a level 3 guard so your mission will range around that level and as you are the guards, if there is a magical beat tide or battle you would be the first to be put on the front line.

But don't worry this kind of battle hardly happens in a decade and one such happened not so long ago so it won't happen during your guarding period.
