Is that an arrow?

The relentless cycle of fighting and killing zombies had left him vulnerable, and now, faced with a new threat, he was trapped, uncertain of what fate awaited him next.

It was a huge monster with thick black fur and hollow brown eyes. It had a wide mouth and two long, sharp fangs that protruded from the upper part of its mouth.

The beast looked similar to a pit bull, except that it was twice larger and had fangs jutting out, along with drool dripping from its large mouth.

It growled again as it slowly moved closer to Blake.

Blake tried moving away from the beast, however his body was so weak and all he could do was slowly crawl backwards.

Not even for a second did he think of fighting the beast in front of him head on, he was currently very weak and exhausted.

All part of his body were hurting so much that it felt like he was almost paralyzed.

Even if his body wasn't so weak, and he was still in his peak condition, he doubted he could have even done anything against such a terrifying beast.

The dog-like beast finally stopped when it got to Blake. Its large body, loomed over the black haired, casting a huge shadow over him.

Looking at the hollow eyes of the beast, Blake's eyes trembled and his body shook in fear.

'Is this it…? Is this how I die?' He thought, his life before now flashing across his eyes.

The beast slowly raised one of its paws, before suddenly swinging it down, smacking Blake lightly at his side.

Blake groaned as the force behind the hit pushed him to the side.

Intense pain travelled through his already weakened body and his teeth gnashed against each other in pain.

Though the beast didn't use its full strength in that hit, it was still enough to make him feel a lot of pain, and it was only worsened due to him being more or less paralyzed at the moment.

Blake breathing became heavy as drops of tears pooled at the corner of his eyes.

Was this the end of the road for him? He couldn't help but wonder.

No matter how he tried to look at it, he could never escape this monster.

His eyes moved to the side, towards the beast that was slowly walking towards him.

As he watched the beast's movements, seeing how slow the beast was approaching him as if it had all the time in the day, Blake realized that this dog-like beast was only toying with him.

However, did it really matter? Even if he was somehow able to survive, did it really mean anything?

He had already lost his parents, he was all alone in this cruel world. At least, if he died now, he would go to wherever his parents went to and join them… and then, he would have peace.

Maybe I should just let it kill me.

For a brief moment, that thought appeared in his mind, and Blake felt that perhaps, he should just give up.

However, remembering his father's death, and his mother's last moments… before she turned into a zombie, his eyes lit up with a strange glint, and clarity returned to him.

He couldn't die this early… or rather, he didn't want to die now.

He wanted to live, and not die. Dying now would make his mother's sacrifice useless, and he could never be truly happy with that.

By now the beast was already close to him, its large figure casted a huge shadow over Blake and his lips drooled at the thought of consuming this tasty meal.

Blake's gritted his teeth as he stretched his palm wide open.

'Lightning Ball.' He mumbled inwardly, in a bid to activate the lightning attack skill he used in killing all those zombies.

However, a small spark only briefly lit above his palms before going out.

Blake's eyes widened seeing this, however, he wasn't able to think about it for long as another stabbing sensation ran through his head.

It was similar to what he felt back then when he lost all the strength in his body.

However, Blake didn't stop trying to activate the skill.

He tried activating it again, but just like before, only a tiny spark lit above his palms before going off.

Another stabbing and even more painful headache wracked through his head, making him groan in pain.

His body only got weaker, and he felt more pains.

Blake's eyes widened slightly, he kept on trying to activate the skill, however, he head only throbbed more and his body only got weaker, making him feel more pains.

Each time he tried activating the skill, it felt like he was trying to draw water from an empty well.

As for the beast, it simply stared at Blake, seemingly amused by whatever he was doing.

Blake gritted his teeth in frustration. No matter how much he tried, he just couldn't activate the lightning skill.

While this wasn't too surprising considering how many times he had used the skill against the horde of zombies, it made him lose hope as this meant he was completely helpless against the beast.

At that moment, the huge dog-like monster suddenly growled before opening its large mouth, revealing a set of sharp teeth and fangs.

It licked its lips with its long, disgusting red tongue, before bringing its mouth towards Blake head, finally ready to devour its meal.

Every little movement of the beast seemed to be playing in slow mode to Blake.

He watched on as the set of large fangs slowly closed in on his head, completely helpless against it.

His whole body felt very weak, and he could feel himself slowing losing consciousness.

'Is this the end…?' He mumbled inwardly. 'I guess this is how I die then…'

'I'm sorry dad… sorry mom, I couldn't fulfill my promise. I guess I'll be seeing you both soon… I hope you forgive me…' Blake mumbled inwardly, his thoughts gradually getting muddled with every passing second.

His eyelids felt heavy as he slowly blinked, feeling him consciousness slip away.

However, just before he closed his eyes, a sudden bright flash of light sudden occurred in front of him, momentarily blinding him.

He blinked slowly in confusion, and the last thing his eyes saw was a thin, bright white arrow embedded in the middle of the beast's head.

'Is that… an arrow…?' That was the last thought he had before his consciousness finally slipped away from him.
