Prologue

In the emptiness of the abyss a very troubled voice could be heard discussing the workload he was about to receive due to one person's mess up. He stood up begrudgingly. "Well, bring in the first lot then", he announced "no point wasting time...". Moments later, four people appeared in the empty space (all seeming to be around the age of university students). "Please do not freak out, all will be explained shortly. We simply do not have the luxury of enough time to answer all your questions presently, but when you have collected yourselves, I will provide what information I can". Despite their confusion, all four nodded their heads obediently not daring (nor having the time) to argue. The voice continued. He proceeded to explain to the youths that this was no dream but was in fact a seriously big mistake.

At the hands of a rather foolish god, the group had suffered through a terrible accident; the aftermath of which he was tasked with cleaning up. Although not permitted (nor bothered) to explain the full extent of the god's mishap, he then began to inform them of the relevance of their current situation. He explained that they were now being given the opportunity to be reincarnated into another world. Both divine and authoritative, the voice commanded the room signalling that this was indeed the afterlife and a fate they had to accept. Before an outbreak of complaints could occur, he notified them that he had been informed of their fondness of DanMachi and how they had mused about experiencing a similar adventure if this event should ever occur. Ergo, the group would be granted a new life to match the excitement and experience found in such stories. The weight of this offer pressed heavily on the youths, forcing one to take refuge on the floor while the new information swirled in his head. In a surprising show of empathy, the voice allowed the group a few moments to gather their thoughts. If all four wished, they could appear near the city of Orario equipped with new bodies aged 17/18 (allowing an easier physical and cultural transition) for a second chance at life. To lessen the apparent stress of the group, the voice reassured them that there would be an opportunity to negotiate the finer details later. Despite this, he did press them on their overall decision, complaining of the numerous other groups he urgently needed to attend to. The four looked at each other, only now seeming to fully take in the depth of their impending decision. After a few questioning looks they all nodded their heads in agreement. The voice then sighed in relief before laying out the options each youth had in terms of race and appearance regarding their new bodies. Although not one to often add the personal touch, the voice also offered up three wishes to each member of the group as an apology for the entire ordeal (and as penance for his personal hand in it). Just as quickly as they had appeared, all four youths had vanished from the space to (in turn) relay their wishes and requests to the god responsible for placing them in this new world. Still heavily sighing, the voice basked in this moment of silence before regrettably welcoming the next group of unfortunates from the seemingly never-ending list.
