Dancing with Monsters

Have you ever heard the story “The Woman with a Ribbon Around her Neck”? No? Well, aren't you in for a treat. I am a monster; from a long line of monsters. At first, I hated it, I wanted to be nothing more than a normal human... and for a few hundred years I blended in just fine with the rest of you. Mommy issues and all. But with a mother like Pandora, what can you expect? What? You've heard of Pandora? That's cute, she is nothing like how the storied have painted her. But this isn't her story, just her mess to clean up. But I digress. I grew. I learned that I could be so much more than I ever thought possible. If I was going to embrace being a monster, I would go all out. Me and my men will make sure that the humans don't need to worry about the things that go bump in the night. What Pandora released onto the world, I would take out. Feel free to leave all that messy business to us. If He Is A Threat

"I'm sorry, I don't think I understood you. You're saying that she isn't in New York right now?" asked Viktor, raising a single eyebrow as he looked at the knight in front of him.

The three of them were alone in Viktor's office at Knights Securities, the Head of House having a lot of work to catch up on after being gone for so long.

Sasha simply smirked at the man, not bothering with his normal platitude. His older brother stood behind Viktor's shoulder and glared at him, trying to get him to fall in line.

It might have worked before if he hadn't decided to fight for what he wanted finally.

"Nope," Sasha smiled, not at all worried. "Oh, and I am putting in a request to transfer Houses."

Viktor didn't know what to say. Everything seemed to be swirling around him, and he couldn't think straight.

Where would she have gone if she wasn't in New York? Didn't he tell her to wait for him? Or did that slip his mind, too?

When he got the call to hunt, it was hard to remember anything that didn't revolve around it.

"When is she coming back?" he asked, going back to what was important. The paperwork could wait. Whatever Sasha was saying could wait. He needed to know when his pui mic was coming back.

"No idea. So, about me leaving this House?"

Hatmanu cleared his throat before glaring at his brother. It was their family's honor to serve the Head of House Van Helsing. What was this bullshit about wanting to change Houses?

"You seriously want to leave?" asked Viktor, finally cluing in that Sasha, the commanding officer of his New York troops, wanted to leave to go to another House. It could be done. But why? And what House?

"I found the love of my life, and I don't want to have to leave her again," shrugged Sasha. His tone was joking, but the look in his eye was anything but.

"Fine. Have the Head of the other House contact me, and I will let you go," waved off Viktor. He had much more important things to do…

Like tracking down his lady, who seemed to be galivanting all over the place.

Sasha's phone decided to ring at the moment, drawing both Viktor's and Hatmanu's attention to his pocket.

With a shrug, Sasha picked it up and answered it.

"Hey. Any problems? No? Well… that was unexpected. Okay. I'll meet you there. Viktor is back in the city, and I am just reporting to him now. Nope. Okay. Yup. I'll meet you there."

Hanging up the phone, Sasha smiled at the two men. "What were we discussing?" he asked, his head cocked to the side.

"Where Natalia was," answered Hatmanu when Viktor didn't.

"Ah, she is on her way home," nodded Sasha. "If that is all, I'll be heading out. I have to meet up with a few people."

Viktor raised an eyebrow but didn't say anything. Sasha was acting weird. Or at least weirder than normal.

"I'll be having a meeting with Vlad once he gets back into the city. If you could arrange it with his second?" said Viktor, turning to Hatmanu.

"Oh, you don't need to worry about that. Vlad's dead. Nat killed him. If that is all, I'm heading out!" Sasha turned around and headed to the door, only to be stopped before he could leave.

"Get your ass back here and explain yourself," growled Viktor and even Hatmanu looked pissed.

----

"What took you so long?" asked Mathew. The five me were sitting around the fireplace in Natalia's living room, resting after such a long flight.

Natalia was upstairs, fast asleep, her body needed it after everything that happened.

"Viktor is back," grunted Sasha as he took a glass from the wet-bar at the back of the room and poured himself a glass of whiskey.

"Yeah, got that much. But I expected you here an hour ago."

Sasha simply smiled and chugged the liquor in his hand. "Apparently, Viktor had a lot of questions."

Mathew wrinkled his nose but didn't say anything else. His glass of brandy hung precariously from the tips of his fingers as he sat in one of the chairs. Nicholas took the other chair, the two facing the fire. Greyson had a whole couch to himself while Levi and Dom shared the one across from him.

Seeing the empty spot, Sasha sauntered to the couch and sat down beside Greyson.

"Who's the new guy?" he asked, tilting his chin toward Nicholas.

Nicholas snarled at him half heartedly, not in the mood to deal with anyone else.

Having Michael around was enough of a headache. He wasn't going to get into it with one of his mate's… mate.

Speaking of Michael.

"Angel," growled Nicholas as he took a sip of his drink. It had been so long since he had been able to indulge in the Romanian liquor that he wanted to savor it. "Where are you?"

But there was not much point in savoring something when someone was around to sour your stomach.

"I am here, demon," grunted Michael, appearing in the corner of the room. "I was just checking in on Gabriel. He is doing just fine; in case you were wondering."

"I really wasn't," shot back Nicholas, quickly gulping down the rest of his drink.

"Okay then," interrupted Sasha as his head went back and forth between the two unknowns in the room. "It appears that I missed out on a lot while you guys were gone."

"This is Nicholas Tesalor," introduced Mathew, pointing to the man sitting beside him. "He was Natalia's brother… now, not so much. The jackass over in the corner wants to kill Natalia and is here to figure out just how to do it."

Within a second, there was a gun in Sasha's hand, pointed to the guy in the corner. The angel.

"We are keeping him around for a bit," pointed out Nicholas, but his clenched jaw let everyone know exactly how happy he was about it.

"Why?" asked Sasha, his head cocked to the side as he studied his target. "If he is a threat, he needs to be eliminated. It is really simple."
