Chapter 32: The Swimming Date

"As we already know, we always have our swimming competition in this very term that we are in, and it is a once in a year thing. Well, I'm here to announce to you the date of the swimming completion, the same competition that we all have been waiting for. Well... The date is... On the... Third of March, and which according to our school academic calendar is a week before revision."

So the principal said, and all the students jumped for joy. The swimming competition period is the most fun-filled period for the students they love it because in this period there will be a reduction in the lesson period so that the students can meet up with their training. Well, just like many teenagers the majority of the students in this school really do not like studies that much, they will rather play all day in school than sit for lectures.

"And as we already know, the winner of this contest will be crowned the Merman!, and he will be exempted from the payment of next term's school fee. And we also know about the golden award that comes with it. So who will be our next Merman?"

So the principal said, and the students applauded. The principal also said something about the various recognized houses of the school, he urged them to try and make this time's completion more competitive as it had been one-sided for the past three years. The Red House had always won the competition, and it has always been Kunle Adewole. After the announcement, few other things were done and the whole students uniformly matched to their various classes.

"Why is Damian not in school today? Will he still come?"

Chinwe asked.

"Yes o, I'll like to see him win this competition, even though I'm not in the same Yellow house with him."

Charity added. I was in Yellow house, both I and Cynthia are in the same house including Bright.

"No, he won't be coming, it's quite heartbreaking, but he is not feeling too strong, I will really love to see him swim too, you know he is a very good swimmer."

Cynthia said looking unhappy as they strolled to their class.

Later in the class, announcements were made concerning the registration of the swimmers, according to them, whoever knows he/she is interested should go to their various house captains to register. The competition will start withing the houses first, where they will choose a person who they believe will lead them to victory, that person chosen by the House will represent the House in the coming competition which is only a week from today.

When Cynthia heard of this, she thought of what to do, so she decided she will do something that will make me feel indebted to her, she thought about helping me to register for the swimming so that when I hear about it, I will know that she cared for me deeply. So she thought as she went on with the registration.
