Death Of A Supreme Sovereign

Liu Feifei opened her mouth stunned, her body trembled as she looked at the man a 100,000 men were greeting.

That man was her husband right? why was he so unrecognizable now? She felt he was a stranger to her.

The Gu Clan looked like they had all eaten a pile of shit. Just a few breathes ago, they were denying any involvement with Gu Shang as if he was plague. 

The old clan leader stood there in a daze, had he made the wrong decision? The bastard he had always regarded as a disgrace to their family was now the most powerful man in the empire only below the emperor.

That man a 100,000 men were bowing down to, that was his grandson! he was about to have a heart attack.

Gu Lin just stood there like an idiot, that was he's younger brother wasn't it? Why were all this men bowing to him.

The old general and his son trembled in excitement, Gu Shang wasn't really bragging a few days ago, he was really the Prince Of The North.

Their excitement died down after they remembered that the high ranking officials were planning to force him to submit.

His life could be in danger, they thought worriedly.

They've all heard about the various achievements of the Grand General on the battle field.

They had imagined him to be a bulk tall barbaric brute giant or, a middle aged commander with a commanding presence.

But reality was indeed different, he was so young and lean, he had no commanding presence at all, the only thing one could say about him was his mysterious aura.

The emperor scanned Gu Shang up and down, before clearing his throat.

"Oh.. So it's the Prince Of The North, if you had informed me of your arrival earlier, I'll would have made better preparations for your arrival three days ago" The emperor said with his hands behind his back.

Gu Shang simply glanced at the emperor, "I'm really disappointed in your majesty" he said expressionlessly.

The high ranking official were shocked, even they didn't dare to say such bold words to the emperor.

"How impudent!" The Zhang Clan leader shouted.

He was angry that his son's arm had been amputated, he's eyes were red as he vowed to make the Grand General pay.

But before he could proceed, the second chancellor grabbed his shoulder and muttered "Keep your anger in a bit longer, he's now in our territory"

Gu Shang sneered when he heard them, though they said it in a very low voice which no one could hear, Gu Shang was an exception.

What a joke, he could hear every conversation in the imperial capital if he wanted to.

The second chancellor cleared his throat and stepped forward, "We welcome you to the capital, Prince Of The North.

This should have been a happy occasion, but there are somethings you need to answer to, your grace" he said he's expression turning serious.

Gu Shang narrowed his eyes with blood lust seeping out of his eyes. Everyone gathered there shuddered, 

But the second chancellor didn't back down.

"In the year of the purple star, you had repelled the Wei empire invasion, the imperial court ordered you to match forward and seize enemy territory, but you disobeyed orders.

In the year of the flaming star, The imperial court had ordered you to march south and conquer the Shu empire to which you disobeyed.

In the year of the flood dragon, you married the Queen of a high tier kingdom and formed an alliance without consulting the imperial court"

When he mentioned that point, Gu Shang glanced at the dazed Liu Feifei from the corner of his eyes who was standing among the ranks of the capital guards.

Gu Shang had wanted to explain that incident to her but didn't know how to start.

The Second Chancellor went on and pulled a list of orders he had disobeyed.

"Do you want to argue your innocence?" he asked.

Gu Shang just stood there silently with his hands behind his back not saying anything.

The chancellor nodded, " Since you admit your guilt, it's only right that you hand over your Supreme Command Military Seal and step down" he said coldly.

The Supreme Command Military Seal was the seal used to mobilize all the empire's troops, it had always been in the hands of the imperial family, but when the Grand General ascended power, the old emperor gave it to him.

That seal was the main source of the Grand General's power, if they wanted to deal with him that's where they needed to start.

Gu Shang ignored him and glanced at the emperor, "You majesty are you going to let that dog keep barking" he asked with an expressionless face.

The emperor looked at him and closed his eyes to signal that he was going to turn a blind eye to whatever was going to happen.

Gu Shang snickered after seeing that, he turned his attention to the Second Chancellor his voice turning cold, "And what gives you the right to force me to hand over my seal"

"So the Prince of the north has chosen the hard way, don't blame me for whats about to happen to you" he said before he took a back, things were really going the way he wanted.

Several middle aged men stepped in front of Gu Shang, they were all at the Sky Lord Stage.

"You think this bunch of weaklings can do anything to me?" Gu Shang asked amused.

"Of course not, we are the ones you should concentrate on" three old men descended from the sky.

The crowd were in shock, those three had the aura of Supreme Sovereigns, they were a realm above the Sky Lord Stage.

In this world, Cultivation was very different and difficult. Every minor stage within the levels were difficult to cross and so held more power.

For instance, there were six levels in each tier of cultivation, each minor level was a huge difference. 

To make it more clearer, a person in the first stage of the sky lord realm could never defeat a second level expert and a second level expert could never defeat a third.

Those six minor levels made a huge difference. They all knew that Gu Shang was only at the Sky Lord Stage, going against all the sky Lords assembled here would prove challenging to him.

But now there were even Supreme Sovereigns, this was an over kill. No wonder the second chancellor and high officials were so confident even in the face of a 100,000 soldiers, they did have the base for their confidence.

"Young man, you've served the empire well. It would be a shame if you were to resist your punishment and die by our hands.

For the sake of your service, why don't you just submit, so we can proceed to head into the palace for your welcome banquet"

An old man in grey robes said whiles pulling his goat like beard.

"If you choose otherwise.." he unleashed his aura and target Gu Shang.

Those around Gu Shang fell on their knees whiles sweating like crazy. Gu Shang on the other hand stood there unbothered.

The old man narrowed his eyes, so we have a strong one I see. Not many could resist the aura of a Supreme Sovereign, this young man was very strange.

"is this the best you can do?" he asked calmly.

His words infuriated the old man, but Gu Shang wasn't done. 

"Even a mere Sovereign like you dares to strut in front of me, how bold!" he said disdainfully.

He's words caused the crowd to gasp in amazement, mere Sovereign? Wasn't big brother bragging a little too much.

There was nothing mere about a supreme sovereign. For a country to be considered an empire, they needed at least a Supreme Sovereign to hold the fort.

Immortal empire was regarded as a middle tier empire because, they had a Quasi Immortal King holding the fort.

But that person was still a supreme sovereign. In the empire, supreme sovereign were considered at the very top of the hierarchy, you only see them once or twice in a few decades.

That was why sky lords were held high in regard, because they were always around but Supreme Sovereign weren't the same.

Gu Shang was surely a dead guy, no one had ever gotten away after offending a Supreme Sovereign.

The fear in Liu Feifei heart grew stronger, just when she thought things were getting better, this happens.

The Gu Clan had missed emotions, With Gu Shang new identity they could have ruled the empire if he had never stepped foot in the capital.But alas he had to offend a Sovereign.

Qing Ying continued to stare a Gu Shang calm demeanor and couldn't help but feel that something was wrong.

"Very well, I'll show you there's nothing mere about Supreme Sovereigns!" the old man said as he prepared to make a move.

"First emissary", Gu Shang called the leading commander who immediately rushed to his side.

"That old thing talks to much, Kill him!" he said ruthlessly shocking the crowd and the old sovereign.

"Yes your grace" the man replied before he unsheathed his sword.

The moment the sword was unsheathed, he released his aura.

"He's a Supreme Sovereign too, the crowd said in amazement before giving them space.

The old man narrowed his eyes, he knew all the Sovereigns in the empire, but the man in front of him was not one of them.

But he wasn't scared of him though, he was at the third level of the supreme sovereign realm, the young man aura seemed to be at the first. 

He could crush him with his eyes closed, " I'll give you a chance to make a mo.." but before he could finish his sentence the commander shot toward him with full speed.

The old man reacted quickly before forming a spiritual dome around his body using Qi whiles he prepared to embrace the attack.

The young commander thrust his sword forward, blue light formed around the edges of the sword as it pierced through the bearer.

"Blood intent" the old man muttered.

The old man panicked but quickly took out a spear from his storage ring, and used it to block the sword.

He had reacted quite quickly and showed why he was a veteran.

The sword crashed into the spear cause the old man hands to go numb, he was forced to kneel down because the strength of the young man was too much to bear.

A large crater formed on the ground as he resisted but he's spear gave in breaking into two.

The sword went through his skin cutting through the protection around his body like a hot knife cutting through butter.

The sword went on and pierced his heart, the old man spat out blood and with his last breath said within breaks.

"You...you...you are a fourth stage Sovereign!" the old man breathed his last before falling lifelessly on the cold floor.

If he had knew, he would have never in his life fight the man.

A deadly silence ensued the place, all this had happened within a single breath time.

To them all they saw was the man drawing his sword out, rushing towards the old man and throwing an attack, the old man brought out his spear to defend but eventually died because the spear was too weak. Too them that's how it looked.

Just like that a supreme sovereign was dead, and in less than a breath time,
