4 First Hunt

Jason returned to the Night Market that evening. The first place he stopped was at Nick's table in hopes that the guy had a decent job for him. But the gaudily dressed man didn't have anything that particularly stood out to Jason. Most of the jobs were decent but theydidn't pay as well as his first job.

'I should have be prepared for that though. That job was the exception and not the rule for how most missions were.'

Nick saw that Jason was thinking carefully about which jobs he wanted to take on so he decided to give him a suggestion.

"Kid. I give safe and reliable jobs. That means that each job I offer has an 80% of coming out alive, an 80% chance of not getting arrested, and an 80% chance of getting paid the amount I tell you. Because I offer such high rates, I take a larger portion.

There are other guys that offer better-paying jobs but they can't guarantee the same conditions as me. I suggest you take a few more jobs under me to get your name out so that you have actual requests for yourself personally instead of trying to get better-paying ones right away."

Jason nodded at his words but his eyes were already drifting over to one of the other tents. He saw several guys being loud and boisterous which gave Jason an idea.

"Are there any party gangs or gangs that just piss others off? Ones that no one would mind if they got taken out and stolen from."

Nick looked at Jason who had asked him such a bold question and couldn't resist laughing.

"You're either gonna die really fast or live a long time. I'm curious about which one. We got a couple of those around the city. The number one group is the Green Garden. Basically a bunch of simps for Poison Ivy.

They say they do all their crimes for her and give any money that they get to the lady herself but I got word from a reliable source that Big Red herself hasn't even heard of these guys.

These guys have been stepping on a lot of toes so someone will take care of them sooner or later. If you're able to do it, you'll be making plenty of good connections and earn a reputation for yourself."

Jason didn't mind taking out people like that.

"Sounds like a decent job to me. You know where they stay?"

Nick gave Jason the address and the latter was off. Jason returned to his place where he grabbed his second gun and an extra clip of ammo. Nick told him that there were 7-10 members in total so Jason planned to use overwhelming firepower and a surprise attack to beat them.

Jason stopped by a pizza place next to their apartment complex where the group stayed and picked up a pepperoni pizza. With the pizza in hand, Jason went to the building next door after taking off his mask.

'So the plan is simple. The old random pizza to get the door open before lighting them the fuck up.'

Jason was thinking about how much money he may have been getting from taking out this gang. When he exited the elevator, Jason noticed that there were sounds of fighting nearby. He saw one door had been busted in and broken.

When Jason looked at the numbers on the doors around it, he could tell that he had come too late and his prey had been stolen.

Just as Jason was thinking about whether he wanted to be the thing that hunted the hunter, two figures rushed out of the room. One of them was wearing all green and had their hair dyed red. The other was a giant wearing a luchador mask.

The man rushed into Jason and nearly knocked him over. Not to be a pushover, Jason subconsciously reached for his wrench and swung it at the man's arm.

The green man heard a crunch and felt pain shoot through his arm. He raised his other hand that had his gun in it to shoot Jason but before he could lift it all the way, a boot crashed against the man's face.

The man in green stumbled once more before a wrench was brought down on his head. His body collapsed on the ground as blood came pouring out.

"Thanks, kid. The name's Bane." the man in the mask said

"No worries. I'm Jason. I was actually on my way over here to deal with them myself but it seems like you beat me to it," Jason tried to play it off but inwardly, he was shocked. He had already met Batgirl earlier that day but so he didn't expect to meet another major character so soon.

Bane could be said to be Batman's best rival. The Joker was the one that constantly tested Batman's resolve but Bane was the one that tested Batman's skill. Bane's intellect easily matched that of the Dark Knight and he used it in order to defeat him during Knightfall.

'Seems like Bane left Santa Prisca much earlier than the comics led on. He didn't just arrive and make a plan. He was here for years before Knightfall occurred. This guy is even scarier than I thought.'

"It seems that I have stepped on your toes then. I apologize. One of these fools made me angry and when I beat him to a pulp, he said his friends would avenge him so I came to deal with them first."

Jason held up his hands as he shook them furiously.

"No worries. It wasn't like I put a formal word out that I was going after them."

"I still would like to apologize. If you want, you can come in and grab whatever you want. I only came to put a few dogs down."

Jason was jumping with joy when he heard Bane's offer and instantly accepted it. He wasn't so pretentious that he would refuse a gift like this.

"Thanks, Bane. I was actually planning on taking any cash they had lying around since I am in need of it," Jason walked with Bane into the apartment. There were dead bodies all over the room, each of them have either had their neck broken or their chests caved in.

'Shit. He did all of this and it doesn't seem like he is high on venom.'

The wheels in Jason's head began to turn as he started thinking of a plan.

'I'm gonna need a crew eventually. I may as well start building relationships with the more sane bunch of these guys.'

"You took all these guys out by hand?"

"Indeed. Why?"

"I could use some training and would love to hire you as a personal instructor. While I'm not bad, I can't take on anyone that considers themselves actually trained."

Bane was surprised that Jason had asked for this. Originally, he was just being polite when he offered Jason the money. He had expected them to part ways and never see each other again afterward.

"Sure. Here's my number. You can call me when you want to get some training in."

Jason was using Bane's personality against him. The man felt superior to everyone but he also pitied the weak. Because of this, as long as one wasn't his enemy and behaved in a certain manner, they could get on Bane's good side.

Jason memorized the number before he began looting the place. During this time, Bane had already left. Jason also didn't stay for too long. When he had converted most of the cash into eddies, Jason dipped as well.
