Falling apart

Jacquelyn stood by the corner, pressing her palms tightly together. She watched as Kael spoke with the graveyard caretaker. Though she could hear what they were saying, Jacquelyn's mind was a mess at the moment. She had a lot of things going on in her mind, and she wished her mother was still alive to answer her questions.

"Thank you for sparing my life," the caretaker bowed twice to Kael. "I'll never forget this day. Thank you so much... may heavens—" the man paused, seeing the frown on Kael's face.

The caretaker cleared his throat, "I mean... may hell—" he swallowed hard, not knowing how to bless the vampire king and avoid losing his head. The man just kept quiet and bowed his head deeply.

"Tch... I was waiting for your blessings," Kael remarked, narrowing his eyes at the man with feigned concern. "Heaven or hell... which one were you going to bless me with?"

"I- I didn't—" the man stammered, hoping the vampire king would leave him alone already.
