Life at Reasel town

I walked down the street. He should be somewhere near. I read the description of the man. He wouldn't go unnoticed. Big muscular black man. Name: Jenson May, 46 years old. I sighed. What was the need for him to jump to trouble? He is this old, he should have lived the rest of his life peacefully under his roof. He has already earned enough. Why go and fight for money when you already have enough? Better you have enjoyed your life and lived it well. If not, it ends today. And I am so sorry for what I am going to do. You asked for it.

There he comes. I don't have to do anything huge. Just go to him, let him know what he did for this to happen and do my thing. I have really improved my skills. Now I am one of the best assassins, like my name, Ace. I miss my real name, Austin. Wish i was known by that name. But this is best for my profession. Now I am Ace. That fits me more.

We both are walking towards each other in the narrow alleyway. He looked at me and I smirked. His eyes widened. Maybe he knows.

I always stay undercover. Everyone knows my name and how good I am at my job. But no one knows me. The one who sees my face doesn't live to explain it to someone else. All they know is Ace, the one who started the job by killing the black money dealer, Josh. Ace, who can conjure a deadly beast. Hearing Josh was a bad guy made me feel way better. I didn't kill someone who was good to society.

"There you are." I said smiling, "I have been looking for you the whole day."

His eyes narrowed. He is going to fight. That's where I am bad. I can't do magic to defend myself. All I can do is find a place to hide and dodge the spells. Since it is Reasel town, no one knows a counter spell for anything here. Knowing counter spells are also futile. Reasel town is the centre of dark magic. People here live at night. They are the owls. They hunt at night.

"I knew you would come Ace, glad to know that the assassin Ace was the bartender!" He scoffed.

I let him speak. This is his last time, Ace, let him. I spotted a bunch of wooden boxes clustered in the alleyway from the corner of my eyes. There is my beast! I should protect them from his attacks and should find a hiding spot far away from them. There is nothing else. I can hide from him in the shadows. But that won't protect me from his spells. This is going to be fun. He decided to fight, rather than begging me. I am going to make sure he begs. That is personal.

I smirked. I have no choice since I can't find a hiding place. Time for my beast to come in for action. My eyes glow red. He noticed it too. He quickly casted a spell towards me and I dodged it and hid in the shadows. He began to walk towards me casting the light charm to the air but was distracted by the noise behind him. So sorry, mate. But the game is already over. The wooden boxes stacked themselves above each other and soon changed to a beast. It has bead-like red eyes which were targeting him. It raised its arms, claws emerging and hit him, making him fly in the air and crash hard against the wall before falling down. That might have given him a pretty messed up spine. I walked to him.

"Beg" I ordered.

"Please don't…" he whimpered. He doesn't have the energy to move. This got boring pretty fast. All my sudden desire to kill was drowned away when he begged. I never enjoyed killing. I enjoy the begging they do under my feet. After it, I leave, letting the beast go ahead. I walked away allowing the beast to handle the rest. It changes back to boxes after his work is done. There is no more role for me. I conjure it, give a target and leave. All I want is them to beg.

I walked back to the bar through the back door. I changed quickly to the uniform here. I went to the front and began to fill the glasses with drinks. Theo came to me and took the tray of glasses that I just filled. I gave a nod and he just shrugged.

He no longer asks how my mission went. He knows what would have happened. He walked away with the tray. I sighed and sat on my chair. It has been 6 months till i got here. I have been killing people since then. I lost count long ago. I still remember how Theo treated me at first. He was so tough and cruel. I don't care because I wouldn't have been so mentally strong if it wasn't for him.

I was locked up in a dark room alone for a week just because I told him that I am scared of the dark and being alone. That really helped me to get over my fear, honestly. I have been working out hard since then. Now I know I can even fight anyone. At least I think I can. He made me strong enough to get over my insecurities and confident to stand for myself. I am not the same as before. I have gone through so much. I was beaten until they knew that the very next kick would be enough for me to die. I recovered from that trauma in 3 weeks. That was so fast considering how much time I wasted crying for Emma. Yep, I am over her. I am not angry, nor sad. I just don't want to think about it anymore.

I was put under the hurting spell, which is used by the ministry in Riverlook to punish big culprits. I never heard of them doing that spell. It was last used 30 years ago on a man who killed 17 innocent children, just because he hates children. He deserved it. But it hasn't been used ever since. It feels like stabbing, really hard, multiple times all over your body. No blood will be lost. You just die due to pain. That man died in 2 days. Usually the spell only breaks when the person dies. But Theo can control its time limit.

During my training phase, I have gone through that a million times. Firstly it took me 5 minutes to go unconscious. Now I can last as long as I want because I know it won't do anything to kill me. It just makes you feel like you are dying. If you know it and can tolerate pain, you can survive. Theo was so satisfied with my training. I completed my training in 4 months. I am so proud of myself. My desire to prove myself pushed me every day to complete it. And I did it. I am now a mysterious example for new recruits.

I poured out drinks for the man who was just on the counter and he thanked me. Oh. That is unusual. No one thanks me. He must be new here. Take care, mate. This place is bad.

This bar is as old as time. Most people here are assassins whom Theo and his ancestors recruited. People come from around the world with cases. I received a lot of cases because killing your enemy by a beast is a very preferred by everyone. Who doesn't want their enemies to die a very painful death? There won't be a piece of them left. I have gone places, even once to Riverlook itself. I left there as fast as I could. I don't even want to run into someone familiar. Most importantly to Emma. The last thing I wanted to see would be her with her husband.

I still remember my first mission. How scared I was! I was thinking about his family waiting for him, and what they will know will be that he was eaten by a beast. But to my convenience he was as scared as me. But my beast wasn't.

"I want Ace." The man on the counter said while sipping his drink. I chimed the call bell on the table and Theo walked to us. They both walked inside. I am going to go somewhere.

The man left the bar later and Theo walked up to me after an hour. He gave me a paper.

"Riverlook." He said and walked to fill the glasses. I groaned and went to the back room. I dressed up in my black coat and walked out. Let's just get it over with.
