Chapter 1Moving In

The night I saw her last was the night I left that mansion. She was fading away, like a feather turning more and more transparent. Reaching towards her with my hand I make an useless attempt to grab her and not let her go. But the wind was more desperate than my feelings.

"Alto, my dear.", A whisper of the wind.

"Who's there?", I stop working.

"Is anything wrong?", Asks dad.

Looking around a little I say, "No dad. I think I just..."

"Get back to work then. We have to set things up today, you have school and I have work tomorrow."

"C'mon, I can use some rest."

"No."

"But.."

"No."

"Ugh, fine."

My dad, Yabuto, recently transferred to this town. It's a small town far away from capital. Every summer we change house for his work. It's not that hard , since it's only us two. I have no mother. I think I do actually. My dad has been my mom in a way. I don't know what happened to her. I don't really care about it. I never saw her face. Dad says she died in a car accident when I was just a day or two old.

"I'm sorry.", The whisper says.

I look around but find no one.

"Why are you slacking off?! Hurry it up!", Dad scolds me.

"Yes, right!!", I get back to work.

"Ahh, nothing like food after a whole day of work.", Dad says while slurping up the instant ramen.

This is our daily food. Dad can't cook that much. What he can cook is boiled water. Of course that won't fill up my tummy. So instant food is the way to go. I don't really mind it. It's become a habit. Although it's neither delicious nor it is healthy.

"Dad, turn the TV on."

"Oh, there's no cable TV in this region."

"What??!"

"Yeah, cables are too hard to run through these trees and stuffs."

"Don't tell me we don't even have WiFi!!"

"Unfortunately....", He tries to laugh.

"What am I supposed to do then?! I'm getting bored you know!!!!", I start crying.

"Tell you what, we'll take a walk around the mansion when you are done eating."

"But but but..."

"No butts mister."

"Ughhh."

Dad and I are taking a good look at our new house. The mansion was under a lord a few years ago. Since he left the country permanently, he sold it to dad's company. It's rather old. It definitely can use some cleaning. It's 2 storeyed. 3 rooms in the ground floor with a common space. He didn't take many of the furnitures I suppose. Although a few rooms are empty, most of them still has futons and decorations in them. He really had a mixed taste. The building is modern yet the furnitures and decorations are classic japanese. There's 4 rooms upstairs too. But I guess we won't be using them. So dad locked them up. The whole mansion has not a single photo of the lord. It's rather strange for a guy with high prestige like him. Oh, well.

"Interesting, don't you think?", Dad asks me.

"Sure is."

"Well, let's bring the shine back to this place.", He starts folding his clothes up.

"Now?!"

"Have anything better to do?"

"No.", I say pouting.

GlaringError here! As I have already mentioned in my author review I am restating it here since I am getting tons of comments about it, that I am more of a reader myself than a writer, I made this novel in an attempt to capture my fantasy world residing in my mind into words.. Writing is new for me.. The premise of my novel is inspired by many great works that I have loved over the years. And some elements I have in my novel that are slightly similar to them but it's just the skeleton of it, the real meat of the plot is entirely my own cooking. Some of the influence that is more noticeable is from The Runesmith (By Kuropon), The King's Avatar (By Butterfly Blue) and Shadow Slave (By Guiltythree). I have immense respect for these legends and I can only hope to follow in their footsteps. To all those who comment just by judging the name, at least give it a chance before letting your opinions be known. Thank you.
