"That's Eliana's voice! I recognized it right away, and her room wasn't far from mine. It also meant that there might be danger nearby!
My heart raced as I quickly got out of bed. Without hesitation, I hurried out of the room and made my way towards Eliana's cottage. As I rushed through the forest, I felt an urgent sense of worry.
When I reached Eliana's door, her screams grew louder and more piercing. I pushed the door open and was shocked by what I saw. The room was a mess, with furniture overturned, walls cracked, and Eliana frozen in fear in a corner, staring at the wolf in the middle of the room.
It was a large gray wolf, standing tall. Even though the room was dimly lit, I could see a noticeable scar on its right eyebrow.
This wasn't one of our pack's wolves. It might be a dangerous rogue wolf.
"She! She's the one you're looking for!" Eliana pointed at me, and I found myself frozen in confusion, not knowing what had happened.
What in the world was going on?
I shifted my gaze from Eliana to the wolf, and the gray wolf turned its head, fixing its fierce gaze on me. Its eyes were intense, sending shivers down my spine. Suddenly, the large gray wolf let out a low growl.
Danger! Danger!
My instinct told me to run, so that's what I did.
I quickly turned and sprinted through the dense woods, feeling the ground tremble beneath my feet. The howls of the gray wolf echoed behind me.
Usually, the warriors of our pack would have responded quickly, but perhaps due to the ongoing dinner party tonight, there was nobody in sight along the path.
Realizing that help was unlikely, I made a sharp turn and headed towards the armory. If I could get a silver weapon or some wolfsbane, I might have a chance at surviving.
The footsteps behind me grew closer and closer, and I could see the armory building up ahead. Sweat poured down my face, and suddenly, I tripped and fell to the ground.
Ignoring the pain, I quickly got back up, only to see the wolf getting closer from behind. It raised its head, growling menacingly and preparing to attack.
I closed my eyes and instinctively shielded my face with my elbow, ready to face my end.
But then, out of nowhere, a massive black wolf leaped in front of me, shielding me from harm.
The black wolf exuded power and authority. It was huge and strong, with its eyes fixed sharply on the gray wolf.
Both wolves faced each other in a tense standoff. The black wolf let out a low growl, asserting its dominance over the gray wolf.
The gray wolf paled in comparison to the black wolf. It took a step back, seemingly affected by the sheer force coming from its opponent. However, it didn't give up and was still ready to attack me.
In the midst of the intense confrontation, someone suddenly called out my name.
"Odette!"
I turned to look and saw Samuel, my father's wolf, hurrying towards us from a distance.
Upon hearing the call, the gray wolf hesitated and took a step back. It looked at me with a puzzled expression and said, "Odette?"
I remained silent as the wolf took another step forward, growling softly. More wolves rushed to support their comrade, and the gray wolf found itself at a disadvantage. After a brief moment of hesitation, it turned and fled. Its speed was such that our wolves couldn't catch up, disappearing into the depths of the forest.
Relief washed over me. I trembled, overwhelmed by the experience.
The black wolf turned to face me. It was an awe-inspiring sight, both beautiful and enormous. Not only was it bigger than the white wolf, but it even surpassed the size of my father's wolf. Its eyes glowed a vivid green in the moonlight, clear and determined like emeralds. Somehow, I knew it was Wyatt's wolf, even though I had never seen it before.
"Bruce!" Wyatt's voice rang out as he approached. The wolf obediently followed, standing behind him.
Indeed, it was Wyatt's wolf.
Wyatt came up to me and extended his hand. I sat on the ground, looking up at him, noticing the moonlight casting a gentle glow on his handsome face, his black hair swaying in the wind. His deep, ocean-like eyes locked with mine, causing my heart to skip a beat.
"What's the matter, my brave mate Odette? Did the earlier ambush frighten you? Are you about to cry?" He smirked.
I pursed my lips, swatted his hand away, and stood up on my own. How could I have been so blind to find him attractive?
"Odette!" My father hurried over to me, concern evident on his face. "Are you alright?"
"Dad, I'm fine," I reassured him. I glanced at his flushed face and realized why there was no one on patrol tonight.
They were celebrating a welcome party. They must have indulged in too much celebration, leaving themselves vulnerable and allowing a rogue wolf to infiltrate.
More people gathered around me, but their expressions lacked genuine concern as they kept their distance. Although I didn't particularly care whether people liked me or not, the silent atmosphere made me feel uneasy.
Eliana arrived late and embraced me amidst the crowd. Her voice trembled with gasps and tears.
"Odette! Are you okay?"
I stiffened, about to push her away, when she continued, "I was so scared when the wolf mentioned your name. It terrified me!"
My expression changed, and Samantha spoke up, looking at me angrily.
"What does it mean? Did you and the rogue know each other? Did you not only steal Wolfsbane but also have a relationship with the rogue and bring them into our pack?" Samantha's voice quivered, and the crowd erupted. Whispers and murmurs filled the air, all directed at me.
"Oh my goodness! Not only was she cruel to her own sister, but she also tried to destroy our pack!"
