Chapter 39: Eerik
Kara wasn’t one to have high expectations, but she tried to at least hope for happiness. Her brief time with Eerik had filled her with enough happiness to last a lifetime. Maybe that was why she was robbed of it too quickly. That was all the happiness life had to offer her.
She tossed and turned, shutting her eyes tightly, willing herself to sleep and all thoughts of Eerik out of her head.
But before she could succeed, a cold, wet hand tenderly traced her cheek. The voice, velvety and alluring, coaxed her into opening her eyes.
“Wake up, my love,” the voice urged, petting her slowly.
She reluctantly peeled her eyes open, the world around her slowly coming into focus, and she gasped at the sight before her. “Eerik,” she breathed out, sitting up. “What are you doing here? And why are you so wet, you’re ruining the sheets.”
