CHAPTER 45: Greater powers.

Even if Sirin had trouble understanding the actions of the soldiers and the soldiers mainly trying to avoid him, he had fun during the party. Though it was mainly because he could now completely trash the place with other people. So even if he stayed longer in this world, he still wouldn't be completely responsible for the damage.

And even if he would never admit it, he enjoined watching these weird mortals and their extravagant emotions.

During this time, he also stored as much magic as possible in the jewels of his knife. When he wasn't doing this, he naturally had the knife in his pocket dimension. He was planning to store a lot of magic in that thing after all and it would be a disaster if he lost it.

At some point the people either passed out or returned to wherever they slept. Eventually there was almost no one that was still doing anything interesting, so Sirin went back to his section of the base.

Sirin spend a few days simply trying to collect as much magic as possible and every now and then he received some souls from the contract that he had signed with William. He couldn't really care about what everyone else was doing. If they needed him, they would come to him. Until then he tried not to waste his time.

The past few days were so uneventful that Sirin nearly jumped up when a rat ran through the hallway, scared by the heavy steps of a few humans that were approaching.

Much like last time he appeared next to them without making a sound and the few soldiers guarding William nearly had a heart attack.

"Whatever it is, I'm in. I need to pay those souls of somehow."

The men led him to the area near the entrance where the vehicles were placed. There were already some people here, but introductions wouldn't be necessary since he recognised them from the last mission.

The moment they noticed the group, the soldiers quickly hid the carts that they had used to play with and looked at the group, hoping that none of them had noticed their gamble. Sirin just smiled and winked as leaned against one of those flying boxes.

William who apparently hadn't noticed anything calmly gazed over the few creatures that had gathered here.

"We will be off to gather the rest." He spoke to the soldiers. "I assume that leaving you here with the demon won't be a problem."

Sirin briefly glanced at the man. "Don't worry, you have fed me well. I won't kill any of them in those few minutes."

Not quite reassured, but still slightly satisfied, William and his guards left to gather the other soldiers that were scattered over various parts of the base.

When he was gone one of the soldiers turned to Sirin. "What was that about you being fed well? Would you really kill us if it were not the case?"

Sirin shrugged and slowly wagged his tail. "Nah, that was just a joke. I don't need such a reason to kill mortals. Now would you mind telling me how that card game of yours works?"

While they tried to explain how gambling worked to the inpatient demon some of the soldiers couldn't help but wonder why they were all manually being brought here. Most of them had multiple devices that could be used to call them. so why go through all the trouble?

At long last everyone arrived and the higherups explained how they were planning an attack at one of the main bases of the opposition. They had managed to get the coordinates from several of their prisoners and they needed to act before that base was reinforced to withstand the greater powers that were now used on both sides of the war.

Sirin couldn't help but question the choice of words. 'Greater powers that were now being used on both sides.' Judging from the way it was said, this was a pretty recent development. Yet the only greater power that was used here was the one these soldiers had called from the depts of hell. So, had the opposition done the same?

He could barely suppress his excitement. Sirin felt that he had become a fair bit stronger after taking so many souls and he couldn't wait to test this strength out on a worthy opponent.

However, he still felt that the yellowish blood and the feather were odd and not demon like. Then what was it that was helping the other side? Yet he didn't want to question it. He would see what it was once the time came.

Finally, they all left as quietly as possible. All devices, with a few exceptions, were turned off because of the small chance of unwanted listeners as they stepped in their combat planes.

This time Sirin entered one as well. Yet he still refused to wear armour and a parachute. Eventually they just gave up and were simply glad about the fact that the demon refrained from making a fuss about the seatbelts.

Sorry for the short chapter. I’m just really tired.
