On the next school day, Crash is eager to share his thoughts. 'The box is the key.' The phrase echoes in his mind. In the morning, Crash excitedly texts Alex that he wants to spend the night at his house.
'If…it won't be a problem,’ he types. 'We do have gym together tomorrow.'
'That doesn't sound too problematic.' Alex responds with a smiley face. 'I'll ask my aunt.'
'Okay!' Crash responds. 'Just let me know soon…'
Once the plan is set in motion, Crash alerts his guardian. 'Please don't mind…' He twists his lip. The teen opens up her bedroom door slowly. Mama is still asleep. With a guilty conscience, Crash gingerly nudges her arm. As her eyes flicker open, he makes his request.
"Can I…spend the night at Alex's house tonight?" he asks.
Mama yawns and rubs her cheeks. She stares at him as though unable to register what he said. While noting her lack of a response the teen asks again.
