Counter Dungeon-Delving

The people of the alpha plane have made it their hobby to enter the dungeons of other worlds and conquer them. Naturally not everyone is happy with this as dark undercurrents begin to work against the conquerors. As some people die in the dungeons they are made an offer. To give up their humanity in order to live on. Guy, a veteran carrier, is one of them, he can't bear to leave his family alone and accepts. From then on he must fight in the dungeons but as a monster while simultaneously continuing his life in the alpha plane in the shape of a human. Jade, an elite adventurer, also accepts the offer but her intent is solely to get revenge on those who killed her and make humanity suffer for her life. Monica, a little girl not native to the alpha plane is pulled into the happenings due to her childish innocence.

I look over at Valeria questioningly. That T-rex is a joke to someone of her level. This won't even be a challenge. Valeria answers with a sheepish grin.

"I couldn't deny the little one when she asked me for the third time."

Translation, after Cassidy pestered her and gave her the puppy eyes, Valeria agreed to bully that oversized lizard for my daughter's entertainment.

Since Valeria's turn is about to come up, we take a seat on the blanket and wait. Soon, a staff member comes over and informs Valeria that it's her turn. She get up and follows the staff member over to the race track.

From what Cassidy tells me, the track is 300 meters long and the T-rex needs about thirty seconds to make it. That speed is roughly the same as a level one athlete with a related skill or two. As for adventurers, the higher you speed stat, the more ridiculous this race is.

Valeria's speed stat… it's above 400.

She gets into position but instead of assuming the usual starting position. Instead, she just stands there and looks at the staff member holding the gun that gives the starting signal.

With a bang, the race begins and Valeria takes off. Surprisingly, she doesn't fly miles ahead of the scaly carnivore. She elegantly jogs a few steps ahead of it and keeps it that way until the end. The poor dinosaurs looks almost pitiful as it gets led back to the starting line by a handler.

"Wow, you are so fast!"

"You beat it so easily!"

Both my daughters shower Valeria in praises as she gets back. I'm almost tempted to go up myself. However, It means nothing since anyone with a high enough speed stat could do it.

Then, its Cassidy's turn and she has a head to head race with that T-rex. She manages to win by a fraction of a second that can only by observed by a bunch of ultra high-speed motion capture cameras at the finishing line.

Cassidy is over the moon and looks like a happy drunk as she sways towards us. The high from winning coupled with the flood of oxygen her wildly beating heart is pumping into her system have quite the effect.

From what Melody told me, Cassidy won a few times before but we still make sure to praise her a lot. Keeping up with a giant murder machine from the past at level one is always an achievement. A quick glance using my instructor's assessment, reveals that Cassidy has the skill sprint at level four. No wonder she can do this. She must have been training her hardest to reach that level.

Deciding that she's run enough, Cassidy goes to collect her prize. A written certificate that she, at level 1, beat the T-Rex in a race. Correction, I thought it was one certificate, turns out she got six.

Apparently, you can only get the certificate if you are level 1 and people who got the certificate never tried a second time. Cassidy's case never happened before so they just gave her one certificate per successful attempt.

Thus, we leave in triumph and head back to the hotel where Cassidy can put away her certificates. Quinn also runs to put something away and I follow her, curious as to what she wants to put away.

I see Quinn stuff an envelope and two crude leather purses into her backpack. After she has put those things away, she turns and spots me.

"What? I just put away the things I got. I'll give you your copy of the pictures once we are home. As for the pay… you'll never understand its value so I'm keeping it for myself."

"When did you even get those?"

"While you were still changing. I got them from the centurion and pocketed them."

"And by pay you mean?"

"Replicas of ancient Roman coins with the park's mark added on the back. They are worthless on the free market but collectors value them since these ones are marked and can only be obtained here in limited quantities."

So basically it's an exclusive collectible with a historical connotation. My interest in collectibles isn't great so I'll let Quinn keep all the coin. Though, if she were to ask Titus for more, he would certainly give her a bunch.

After both girls have stashed away their prizes, we head back out. Valeria finally has a chance to shine when the girls request to go on a bunch of roller coasters. There's dozens of different mind boggling rides that I'd rather avoid and Valeria seems to be looking forward to them.

So, Melody and I stay at the hotel's lounge and get a drink while Valeria takes the girls to have their fun. Navi, I assume the collar you promised is active and ready?

{Not to worry, the moment Valeria acts up or blocks me out she's getting immobilized. I'm not taking any chances. Valeria will never forgive herself if she harms those two.}

That's good to hear.

Melody and I talk about some trivial topics while we both sip our drinks and just enjoy our time together. The afternoon passes in the blink of an eye and as the sun begins to set, the girls return with Valeria in tow.

They must have had a blast. Both my daughters excited wave around fotos of their screaming faces on different rides as they speak in incomprehensible terms and far to fast to understand anything. They are acting like they just downed a dozen energy drinks. Do I have to be worried?

{No need for worry. These roller-coasters cause an increased amount of blood to flow to the head making people seem supercharged. The effect will dissipate within half an hour after they have gotten off the last roller-coaster.}

Experience?

{As I said before, Valeria has been to almost every amusement park there is and in the early days I was always with her to act as her chaperone. My high stats protected me but Valeria was… acting like she had just drunk a gallon of fresh blood.}
