"Can we go now?"Matt asked, keenly observing Melissa.
" Ye-ah yeah! Let's go"Melissa stammered.
The day passed by,with somehow uninvited peace. Melissa was unconsciously still processing what happened to her.
About 7:00pm, Melissa's grandma arrived.
Grandma was so excited to see Melissa that she jumped off the carriage while it hadn't stopped.
"Ah! Honey! Look at that face!I was dying to see your glorious face. What your bastard grandpa has done to you. You look so fragile sweet buns. I have brought some chicken curry sauce for you. We are gonna have so much fun with it!" Grandma Said in one go.
Melissa's grandparents were divorced. She lived with her grandpa, and grandma lived in New Orleans with her uncle. She often visited Melissa whenever she called her.
Melissa hugged grandma. She needed that.
"Oh! Handsome Matty has grown enough to get married"grandma winked.
Matt's cheeks flushed. Melissa suppressed her smile.
"Grandma, you go inside, I'll join you within a minute"Melissa said.
"Okay honey"grandma said.
"Melissa! What has your poor grandpa done? What is this lawyer visiting card doing here?"grandma asked as soon as she reached the door knob.
"Nothing gran! It's just in case grandpa wants to start a new contract with dealers. Business's growing.Gotta keep a legal advisor you know"Melissa managed to say that.
Grandma shrugged and went in. Melissa Joined grandma after half an hour. The dinner table was loaded with appetizers and turkey. Grandma had made a dish with her oh so precious chicken curry sauce.
"Joshua Fernandez..hmmm.. I think I've heard that name before. That was the name on visiting card right?Oh I hate growing old ,sometimes I can't even remember my own name.Hah!"grandma said, stuffing food in her mouth.
"He's a lawyer grandma. For God's sake. How on earth would you know a lawyer.Joshua is a common name maybe that's why it sounds familiar to you" Melissa tried to change the topic.
"Maybe!"
"So when are you going to visit him huh? Take me with you whenever you go! This name sounds handsome! Maybe I'll find you a suiter" grandma said.
"For heaven's sake grandma! Eat your dinner and let me eat too"Melissa said in a frustrated tone.
"Alright! alright!" Grandma gave up.
Both went to sleep.
Next day's sun brought some new hopes for Melissa. She was about to visit nearby market to negotiate with a dealer regarding animal food.
"Come-on matt! Hurry up bring the carriage, we're getting late"Melissa yelled.
Grandma was still asleep.
"Coming! coming!" Matt tried to calm her down.
"Hop in!"
Matt said, bringing the carriage. Melissa jumped in.
They entered the market.Everyone was giving her uninvited look. Melissa managed to ignore them. The carriage stopped near a small shop.
"Oh Melissa!we were about to send a boy to call you! So good you've arrived by yourself" a bulky man said.
"Why wouldn't I! We're about to start new month contract.I can't miss that!"Melissa said cheerfully.
"About that..yes yes we wanted to talk just about that!uh we have a situation here actually.." the bulky man said lowering his tone.
Melissa smelled that something was odd.
"Yes! I'm all ears" Melissa said, crossing her fingers.
"I don't want to hide anything here. I'm a total professional. You already know that I don't have to mention that again. But we have a reputation in market.." the bulky man said, avoiding eye contact with her.
"But?" Melissa was about to kneel.
"But we cannot and will not deal with killers!"he finally broke the silence.
Matt's jaw dropped. Melissa remained silent in disbelief.
"Okay!"
She turned and screamed loudly raising her hands.
"May I have your attention please!! Is anyone here brave enough to deal with a killer huh? No one? come on show some guts, because this old chad you see here has been lacking some! Anyone huh?"
No one answered. They pretended as no one was addressing them. She felt deeply injured like someone had took her heart out.
"What are you doing? You are embarrassing yourself even more! let's go!"Matt said grabbing her from back.
All her sunshine was faded, gone, long lost. She wiped her eyes and turned her back aggressively. All of sudden, she saw a tall, handsome hearth Rob standing in the grocery stall. It was JOSHUA. Of course, she didn't know him, how could she recognize him. Joshua stepped closer to her and said removing his hat in courtesy:
"Ma'am you're blocking my way,can you step aside"
Melissa stepped aside, still staring at him.
"Thank you! good day!"he said.
He was definitely observing her, not as a killer but as a girl with breathtaking beauty.
After this humiliation, Melissa couldn't think of anything to save her but a lawyer,a lawyer she rejected,a lawyer experienced enough,a lawyer who she could trust,a lawyer not necessarily handsome but sharp witted,a lawyer, possibly JOSHUA FERNANDEZ.
