43. A living source of warmth

Inside Lu Chang Chang's room.

"The weather now is cold, so even if blankets are used, it will take a lot of time for the warmth to reach her body… And it is bad if the heat becomes too much… So… The better option would be….", the physician was speaking in a very hesitant tone.

"Would be, what??", Mo Ting Xiao asked impatiently.

"To have a living source of warmth next to her…", the man replied.

"Meaning??", Mo Ting Xiao asked in confusion. A living source of warmth?? What was this man talking about?? Did the physician have to get his head checked?

"I am talking about you, Your Highness… Since your body temperature will be normal, it will help Her Highness recover faster… And there won't be any risks either…", the physician replied awkwardly.

"Hmm…", Mo Ting Xiao nodded in reply with a thoughtful expression.

Chu Chu immediately stood up and said to the physician, "I'll send you till the door sir." "Thank you Miss", the physician replied.

Both of them bowed in front of Mo Ting Xiao quickly and walked out. When they opened the door, Li Sing Tan and Liu Chen poked their heads from outside.

"How is she?", Li Sing Tan asked. Mo Ting Xiao walked outside and closed the door behind him softly.

"Liu Chen, send a messenger to inform Royal Father that I will not attend tomorrow's royal court as I have to take care of my injured wife.", he commanded as soon as he stepped out.

"I'll send a messenger right away, Your Highness.", Liu Chen immediately replied. He then bowed and quickly walked away to complete his task.

"She is not in danger… It will take her a while to recover…", Mo Ting Xiao replied to the question Li Sing Tan had asked in a slightly weak voice.

"Where did you find her??", Li Sing Tan finally took the courage and asked the question that he had been wanting to ask him.

"Inside a water barrel… With only her face and hands outside…", he replied in a tone of despair. That sight was something he was sure he would never forget.

His heart was breaking thinking about how much she was shivering… And the scars just added more pain…

Li Sing Tan's eyes widened in shock on knowing that Lu Chang Chang was inside a water barrel before Mo Ting Xiao had found her. No wonder she was shivering so much…

"But who would do this to her?? Isn't she usually very cautious??", Li Sing Tan asked in confusion.

She was indeed very cautious. She always had Chu Chu around her as a support. Also most people didn't dare to try and attack her because of her agility.

Mo Ting Xiao's face turned grim. This was a question that even he was not able to find an answer for.

"I don't know… We will have to wait till she regains consciousness…", he replied.

"Thank you so much for all your help today Sing Tan… It would have been tough without you…", he said with a thankful nod.

"You don't need to thank me. After all she is my sister in law, which means, she is my sister… And you are like my brother…", Li Sing Tan replied kindly.

"Hmmm… It is late now, stay the night here and return tomorrow…", Mo Ting Xiao said and called a guard over and asked him to take Li Sing Tan to the guest chamber. He then walked towards Lu Chang Chang's chamber wordlessly.

He closed the door softly, after walking in. He stood in front of her bed and just stared at her with a thoughtful expression.

He didn't mind helping her in recovering, but was worried about what she might think when she would suddenly see him sleeping next to her. He didn't want her to misunderstand his intention.

But thinking that her recovering was his first priority, he decided to do what the physician told him to do. Taking a deep breath, he was about to join her on the bed when he noticed that his clothes were wet as well.

He removed the robe he was wearing and hung it on the hanger. He decided to not change as the water had not reached his inner shirt and pants.

He removed his shoes and placed the by them bedside. Slowly, he pushed the blanket away a bit and made space for himself.

He then hesitantly laid down on the bed.

The second he laid down, he felt Lu Chang Chang hug him.

His body froze in shock and he forgot to breathe. His entire body was as stiff as a statue.
