.........................

The star of Cerberus had already set in the northern horizon for an hour when Regis returned to his room. His brain was overflowing from the various theoretical lessons and war strategies that he was taught just today.

'Those freaks still have the energy left to go to the combat training pods after such a tiring day.' Regis touched his watch and a beeping sound came from one end of the room. A section of wall came out like a drawer and started hovering near his hand. Regis took out a bottle from the drawer and chugged the 'water'.

He could feel his body being energised once again and all the pain from all the remaining cramps disappeared together with the cramps. Regis washed himself and reached his finger towards his holoPC. The screen was replaced with the image of a planet that was covered in 90 percent water and the landmass covered with tropical forests.

'Kleeve senatorial family: A political family from the long line of descendants of one of the eighteen presidents who had signed the treaty of unification. One of the rare families that still holds seven seats in the senate of Equilavaloriastran Oligarchy after hundreds of years of its founding. The joint family still adheres to ancient culture and most of the important members and side families live together on the planet 'Kleevehart'....'

As Regis skimmed through the article on the supposed family of the previous owner of his body, some of the fragmented memories suddenly started making sense to him, but these were of little importance to him.

'Should I just start meditating to get more memories?' Regis looked at his watch and thought.

"Might as well."

Regis touched the holographic screen of his watch and looked at his door in anticipation. After just a minute, there was a slight beep in his watch and Regis tapped it again. The door opened and a circular disk slowly floated inside the room. Although he was surprised that there was no person or machine that delivered the disk from the armoury to his room, it was just momentary. Something that just added to a long list of surprises.

Regis took a deep breath and raised his leg. He still remembered the pain and it did make him hesitant, but his survival was more important.

His nose picked up a familiar sweet scent. All the distracting thoughts in his mind were pushed away and what remained was a comfortable silence. After some time, Regis took a deep breath and started performing the second pose. The feeling that something was drilling into his head came once again and Regis found himself looking at a young man who appeared to be a few years older than him smiling at him.

'I am sure that I am finally going to win this competition of...…' The scene before him began to twist before Regis could listen the complete sentence

'The wait is finally going to end today. I am…' The same person, but he looked a bit younger.

'You two brothers are really….' This time, the speaker was an old man.

While Regis looked through one memory fragment after another, something completely unexpected was happening to his body. His entire body was sweating like crazy while at the same time, a translucent image of a pitch-black wolf with shiny silver horns that looked like a reindeer's antlers was slowly forming behind him. The image grew more and more solid and then suddenly disappeared.

Regis's entire body was flushed red, especially the nerves in his body.

"Ha…What exactly was that." Regis clenched his chest with his hand. He suddenly felt like someone had struck him with a burning rod and as if the molten metal was travelling through his body.

Regis finally unclenched his hand when the burning sensation decreased and removed his shirt. A strange mark that looked like some abstract art twisted in circles had appeared on his chest while he didn't know how. But he did know what exactly that mark was..

'This mystical element assimilated quite quickly.' Unlike what the instructor thought, the mystical element was never the source of the uncomfortable pain for him.

Regis was a bit grateful. Although the water provided in this camp was able to immediately remove any type of fatigue or cramps, he still felt pressured throughout the entire training session due to the difference in his performance and the other cadets. Things being the way they were, Regis didn't want to stand out even a bit before the military personnel even if his standing out was justified.

The gas emitted by the disk gathered around Regis and he could feel all the perspiration disappearing from his body, leaving behind a slightly cool sensation.

Regis stepped down from the disk and put his shirt back on again.

Some of the memory fragments in his subconscious brain were finally starting to make some sense when paired with the ones he experienced earlier.

The information that he was able to make out was that the previous owner of this body was a member of the Kleeve family. He had an elder brother who was three years older than him. These two brothers grew together with multiple of their cousins taken care by an old lady. Although he didn't know who this old lady was, one of his memory fragments depicted her dying of old age.

The other things he remembered was a luxurious room and some random stuff about a large mansion shaped building like locations of staircases, the number of stairs on each staircase, the alien flowers growing in the garden of the mansion and the number of similar mansions present near it.

Regis also had a feeling that something had happened to this recently discovered brother of his, but what exactly, he was clueless

'Whatever. Anyways, I don't think I can bear the pain another time today.'

'Maybe I should take a look around this camp now that I have time.'

Just taking a few steps outside his room, Regis ran into another cadet who was present in the training hall earlier. The face of this new guy changed abruptly when he reached Regis.

"Oi new guy!"

"I go by Regis." Regis replied as he turned to face the cadet.

"What oh…Yeah. So Regis, did you just finish assimilating your mystical element?"

"Yes, how did you know?" Regis asked with widened eyes.

"Isn't it obvious. Your body is absorbing mana from the air like crazy and just two hours ago you didn't have any hint of mana on yourself." The cadet replied. "Anyway, you better step out only after your body finishes absorbing the mana. It is seen as undisciplined behaviour in the camp."

"How do I tell that I have finished absorbing the mana?" Regis wanted to curse out as soon as he spoke out.

"You are one strange guy. Didn't anyone tell you how to monitor the flow of your mana during your schooling? And you speak with that weird ascent. Are you from some far away colony?" The cadet looked at Regis as if scrutinizing him.

"Anyway, let's just go in the room and I'll teach you."

Regis really didn't want to interact with another person, but he didn't have another choice. He had tried searching about mystical element on the network, but it required some kind of clearance to view the content. And he didn't know how to do that.

'Click!'

'Click!'

Regis looked towards the source of the second click and found the cadet looking back at him from the open door of the adjacent room.

"Ha. Let it be your room then." The cadet closed his door and walked towards Regis's room.

"Anyway, I forgot to introduce myself. I am Alex Scyche from the Exelima Scorpious star system." The cadet lifted his heels from the ground and moved one of his hands towards his chest.

'Did he learn that from the anime?' Regis was taken aback for a moment when he saw the familiar pose.

"I am Regis Kleeve." Regis replied back plainly.

"Kleeve as in the Kleeve Senatorial family." This time, it was Alex who was surprised.

"Yes, that Kleeve Senatorial family." Regis replied. "Anyway, come in." Regis regretted that he did not take the chance to enter Alex's room and now he was going to bring some stranger inside his room.

"You haven't designed your room yet. Doesn't it look kinda bland to leave it as is?" Alex looked at the room which contained only a bed in a corner and a desk with a holoPC on top.

"Anyway, that is your choice. Let me finish what I came here for."

Regis heaved an invisible sigh. Just a few seconds ago, when Alex looked at his holoPC, Regis felt as if his end had arrived.

'I will delete or cover up that search history as soon as this person steps out of this room.'

"By the way, what kind of mutation did you undergo?" Alex looks as Regis.

Regis tapped his watch and the familiar interface appeared before him. He wasn't worried about Alex reading his interface as the hologram created by the watch was very good at maintaining his privacy. The screen adjusted in such a way that only Regis could read whatever was written in it, Just a slight change in angle made the content unreadable, let alone standing behind the screen.
