Learning about elements

"Maybe a long range weapon for now. But not a bow." Andrew muttered to himself as he ripped open a package of bandage and wrapped it around his open wound, which stung like hell.

[well, what are your options?]

"Nothing for now, not many places sell weapons as weapons made from the system were the only ones that worked in the dungeons against stronger monsters. But blacksmiths do exist, but I would guess they were taken to the other world." he responded out loud.

He seems to have developed a habit of talking to himself to avoid the quiet atmosphere that swamped his surroundings.

[hmmm, well maybe get some weapon augments. You saw some of them when you browsed through the library.]

"I know, but why would I get some augments for the sword? When the weapon I choose later may not even be compatible with it?" Andrew said tieing the end of the bandage to his arm, the white bandage was already dyed red from the blood pooling out of the wound

"But i see what you mean, ill go check the library out for the two of those." he said to the system, which was weird considering that no one else was able to do it that he knew of.

"Do you know what weapons are compatable with which element?"

[i do, that information is fairly common. I wonder if that is what they wouldve taught you in class.]

"Well, give me the basics then." Andrew said walking out of the nurses office towards the library, the notion of healing made the trip a necessity.

[Alrighty, weapons each get a certain amount of element compatibility, the more complex the elements, the more difficult and stronger the weapon. Like a sword is a lot weaker than a greatsword, because the greatsword is stronger. Elements are determined by how the weapon is used, like dagger is compatible with wind because it's used for fast-paced combat.]

"Alright, i got that. What is the strongest weapon for each element?"

[hmmm… that's a difficult question. I know for a fact that the more common a weapon is used the less an element has a connection to it. Although so minimal that you would need an eternity of training to notice. So don't worry about that, it also depends on how many elements are compatible with the weapon.]

"Sooo…. You have no idea"

[yep, it's all based on skill.]

"I think that's a good thing, I wouldn't want to lose to someone with a stronger weapon."

[oh that will happen, i can guarantee it. I was talking about the long run, a stronger weapon is obviously way better.]

"Of course, let's worry about augments later then." he scrunched his forehead in frustration and walked up the library stairs. Opening the door he was faced with all the books left in place, the librarian was absent. Seemingly spending the rest of her days at home.

Andrew crawled up the stairs and turned towards the light section. Picking up the only book he knew affecting CON, which he assumed correlated with regeneration.

—————

latent regeneration (evolvable):

Imparts CON by 50%

—————

He snatched the book up, he was looking for a reason to pick up this seemingly worthless skill. He had a feeling that it was going to be good,

[why, doesn't that thing decrease your CON, why would you even pick it up?]

"Call it faith? Or maybe it's because every time I watch anime, the weakest thing always becomes the strongest." He retorted back at the whinny system

[i am NOT whinny]

It's deep voice seemed to pout slightly as he responded to the insult.

"Well, pouty or not. I think I should learn these two."

Andrew put the first book down and pulled the second one off of a shelf, he had tried to learn this earlier but failed.

———-

Eyes of the impervious (evolvable)

Allows the user to intimidate opponents by giving the user an authoritative aura.

Causes slight impairment to opponent depending on int stat difference between user and target

When being used dex is decreased by 40%, causing you to not go any faster than a jog.

———-

[THAT one I agree with.]

The deep voice rumbled out with approval.

"Congratulations then." Andrew responded sarcastically.

[...]

'Im sorry, don't pout again you mythical being.'' He thought in response to the silence, picking those two up and walking up one more flight of stairs.

'Open missions.'

--------------

Mission: Learn a physical spell

Reward: ability to learn 2 new spells

Mission: Kill 100 monsters

73/100

Reward 3 str and 3 dex points

--------------

'Now where we're the better physical spells again?' He thought to himself as he tried to retrace his mental path to his personal fighting style.

Completely bypassing a couple of shelves before arriving at his destination. Before browsing a couple of books around the shelf, looking at multiple different spell books before reaching an interesting few.

--------------

Perseverance until blood (passive)(upgradable)

Damage stacks repeatedly by 0.5% per strike until user is struck.

(Spell will not be activated unless user is 100% hp and in combat. Stacks reset after 1 minute after last attack.)

--------------

'Hoho? Interesting. I'll keep it with me for now, this could be handy later on.' He thought to himself as he put the book on top of the other two, the strain on his right arm was light as his left arm struggled to even hold one book without pain.

Moving along the shelf he saw multiple different books for passive skills, Andrew wanted to pick one up because thinking in combat was annoying. He wanted one that he could use while turning his brain off and letting out his anger.

--------------

Triumph the giants(passive)(permanent)

Deals more damage to enemies with more health. Scales by percentage.

100 hp = 0.1%

(Damage capped at 10%)

--------------

--------------

Blood reaper(passive)(upgradable)

10% of vital hits that target will have bleed status applied.

--------------

'Wait, doesn't bleed get naturally applied to things bleeding out?'

[yes, this seems to increase that and give an extra chance of that.]

Andrew nodded to himself and continued to browse his options. All of these books were looking spectacular, it almost caused him to learn them all immediately.

-------------

Warrior of life (passive)(evolvable)

When the user strikes an enemy more powerful than them. Attacks will heal users by 5% of damage dealt.

(Heal is limited to 0.5% of users max health)

--------------

--------------

Critical edge (passive)(permanent)

Critical strikes against vital points deal 10% more damage.

Grants user 10% critical chance after casting a spell.

--------------

Andrew could practically feel the dripping of drool on his back as he read the description of the book in his hands.

[H-hey, I think you found your jackpot.]

'What do you mean jackpot? I don't have many spells I can use constantly.'

[but, that's a 210% damage increase!]

'REALLY?' He yelled sarcastically.

[dick]

Andrew ignored the comment and thought about all of his options. He was leaning towards getting critical edge, triumph of giants and warrior of life. But because of the amount of spells in his hand he decided to think over which one to discard.

'Well I'm keeping a critical edge, but the healing does seem beneficial in the long run. But on the other hand it might be useful to have around. I have limited spell counts but since im getting two more when i learn one of these maybe ill get it later.

Andrew once again piled critical edge and triumph of giants onto his right hand, now holding a total of five books he turned around and slowly tried to walk down a flight of stairs, then another.

He slowly approached the librarians desk and walked behind it. Locating a stack of book bags for books checked out.

Andrew never checked any books out before because he would rather study here with his friends, but with the reasoning not here he found that staying here would just be a waste of comfort and space.

Holding the five books inside of the small bookbag Andrew exited the library and headed back to his dorm room, the sun was now high in the sky as he looked up at it.

'I wonder if they are doing alright, maybe they have already reached their transport beam' Andrew continued walking down the path towards his dorm room.

-

An old man with a small white trimmed beard gave a small smile as he entered a small room. Inside was filled with a large group of people, each wearing matching black combat uniforms.

"I will give it around three days before the first shockwave hits this planet. We will sit from the sidelines and watch as the fodder panic and frolic around. Then we shall begin once again."

He spoke loudly without much remorse for the people he was talking about.

"This will mark our 32nd world crossing and this one should be the biggest in terms of monsters, after all. It's the only place so far out that has managed to even have a species worth talking about. These…Humans per say, seem to be nearly identical to one of the dominant races in our home realm. But much, much weaker, almost worthy of mercy."

"The stronger ones will make it out alive and I want each and everyone of you to find one promising subject and bring them back to me. I have a feeling we're going to have a new member here soon" The man smiled as dark purple horns started to sprout from his head.

"Now, get to work." with a flick of his hand everyone in the room disappeared from the room.

He walked around the room and sat down on one of the lounge chairs laid throughout the room

"Oh shit, these are nice. Maybe we could take a few more of these fuckers to help furnish our headquarters."
