Ambush I

Chapter 54 - Ambush I

"From the footprints, I can say that there are at least 50 goblins ahead."

"Should we go, big brother?" Yue asked with a bit of worry.

Avery then gazed at his spell which was pointing towards the direction where the footprint is going.

From where the spell was pointing, he can say that the creature that he was looking for was near the goblins.

He does not know why the creature was in the direction of the goblins, and he will never find out if he does go ahead and see for himself.

"The spell is pointing there, we should take a look first before deciding on what to do with those goblins."

"Alright…" Yue agreed. She is worried but she knows that they could take care of it.

With her brother around she was sure that everything would be alright.

And so the expedition force moved towards the direction of the goblin.

After a few minutes, Avery can hear a high-pitched sound coming ahead.

Hearing the same sound, Yue faced Avery and posed a question with a frown marring her beautiful face. "Is that the creature we're looking for big brother? It sounds like it is struggling…"

Knitting his brows, Avery replied, "Yes, it sounds like it is the one."

Avery then looked at the elven troops behind him and said "We should hurry, whatever is happening there will definitely not be to our liking"

The expedition force hurried their movement until they were able to see what was happening in a clearing inside the forest.

There, they could see a white elk bound by multiple ropes from its neck and legs as the goblins pulled the rope to restrain it.

The white elk was desperately struggling as it tried to free itself from its captors.

The silver pattern that adorned its body would occasionally glow in purple and release a shockwave of mana that pushed the goblins away.

However, it was useless as it stood no chance to the goblins that held it captive.

There were at least two to three goblins holding each rope while the others were on standby watching the elk.

They would laugh and grin at the struggle and pain in the voice of the elk.

Seeing this, Yue could not help but clench her fist.

She looked at her big brother to convey what she wanted to do.

Getting a hint of her message, Avery replied "I know, we will save it. That elk is the same animal that the spell has tracked."

"But we need to be cautious in how we would approach this, they have double the amount of troops we have and has a higher level than us. Recklessly charging would result in needless casualties." Avery added as Yue calmed herself and agreed to her big brother's reasoning.

Avery then turned his gaze towards Lia and Estel. He then ordered them to each lead a portion of the expedition force to surround the goblins.

The remaining elven forces remained with him and Yue.

The elven forces then quickly but silently moved to surround the goblins as they had their fun.

The archers quickly scaled up the trees and positioned themselves.

The swordsman hid behind the trees and bushes while the mages hid a few meters behind them.

After they all positioned themselves, Yue sent a signal for all the mages and archers to ready themselves.

Yue along with the mages started charging their spells, while Estel and the archers slowly drew their bows and arrows.

Avery and Lia, on the other hand, led the swordsmen and prepared to launch a charge.

-------

On the goblin's side, a relatively larger goblin than the others was standing as he watches his group toy with the elk that they have recently captured.

The elk was special since its race was much more powerful than a normal elk.

These creatures were capable of controlling magic and were proficient in it.

They were known to hide from other species and generally avoided others if they can.

However, they are a force to be reckoned with when their habitat were to be disturbed.

Their group of 82 would not be enough to deal with them.

That was why the goblins were lucky to have captured a lost member of its kind wandering in the forest.

"Hihihi, this elk would be a great sacrifice when we come back…" The large goblin, who is assumed to be the leader of this goblin force, said as it stared at the elk.

It relished in its luck in finding such a rare creature, however that joy soon came to an end as soon as he felt an explosion coming all around the camp.

A total of nine [Fireball] were launched and landed toward condensed groups of goblins.

Arrows were relentlessly released as it seeks out individual targets.

The goblins were in chaos from the unexpected ambush.

The leader like the others was confused before his expression quickly turned that of anger.

It roared and tried to reorganize its group of goblins.

However, before they were able to do so. Lia led the group of elven swordsmen hiding meters away and launched a sudden assault.

They rushed and took advantage of their speed to launch a swift attack on the unorganized goblins.

Avery with his small squad left them on their own device and continued to rush towards the goblin leader.

As the swordsmen led by Lia eliminated their targets, the goblins finished reorganizing themselves and launched their counterattack.

The goblin archers, who were at the back, fired arrows toward the elven swordsmen.

As planned, Lia and the group of swordsmen quickly used the bodies of the goblins that they killed as meat shields.

However, some of the elven swordsmen were not quick enough. This led to some arrows hitting non-vital parts of their body.

The mages that were led by Yue and the archers under the command of Estel finished charging their spells and arrows.

They quickly aimed at the archers at the back and launched the [Fireball] and arrows.

The goblins who knew what was going to happen quickly tried to get out of the way.

Even so, a majority of them were still hit and killed.

After the exchange of range attacks, the remaining goblin warriors and elven swordsmen started clashing with one another.
