Part 9

Kayden's POV

As soon as I entered the market, I became aware of the attention given to me due to my scent.

Since I was an unmarked omega, added that I was close to my heat, had made my scent became even more obvious to those predators who were hunting preys for fun.

They didn't even tried to hide their gazes and ogled me openly, and I could only bit my inner cheeks at times like this, trying to put a brave front instead of showing how scared I truly felt.

I was well aware that I was more vulnerable than other omegas and the others could easily claim me if they want too in my current state, making me cursed myself under my breath, resenting my forgetfulness to shop for groceries before I got to this stage.

Just quickly shop everything and get out of here, Kayden.

Even how much I tried to ignore them, I could still feel some of them closing up to me, some even tried to 'accidentally' touched my body as they walked passed me, and fear starting to creep in me even more as the clock ticked.

And what I feared finally came true when I felt one hand snaked around my waist as I was looking inside the freezer for my chocolate ice cream.

Gosh, please no.

Damn this chocolate ice cream, why do you have to be in this quiet and eerie section. I would let you go if you were some damn green broccoli, but you're my precious ice cream. I can't leave without you. Who's gonna fight with me against my heat tomorrow?!

Braving myself to push the stranger's hand and took a few steps away from the beta after recognizing his subtle scent that wasn't as strong as an alpha would, I only stared warily at the man while he gave me a nasty smile, eyeing me up and down.

"Could you please move away, I need to get the ice cream," I requested politely, betting on my last bit of hope that he would still have respect for me, and move away.

However, all I received was an amused laugh, before my hand was then grabbed by the beta without my consent.

"Come on, you know you could have some other fun rather than shop for ice cream, don't you?" he started pulling me away and I tried to resist, but couldn't do much given that I was already weaker than him in the first place.

"Please let go of my hand. I don't want to go with you, p-please" I continued resisting as much as I can, but when my words didn't have any effect, and I was getting pulled even more by the beta, I resorted to kicking him in the shin, in hope that he'd let go of my hand due to the pain.

Unfortunately, luck wasn't on my side when the beta still didn't let go of my hand even though when he was already crouched down while holding his shin with his free hand.

"You're asking for it, omega" he growled low, gripping my hand tighter than before as his stare turned into a warning glare.

"No! I said let go of me!" feeling my tears welling up, I refused to cry and held it in the best I could. I didn't want him to feel satisfied looking at me helplessly crying for help.

I tried everything to release my arm from his grip, but all efforts were thrown into the gutter due to the evident different in our strengths. I found myself being dragged further away from the ice cream section, and almost lost hope when no one seemed to care enough to intervene the situation I was in.

Until I faintly smelled Jay's scent.

"J-Jay," turning my head to the direction where the scent was coming from, I decided to scream to call out the alpha, only to realize that I was already too scared to even cry for help, and could only muttered out his name.

Jay, please come.

And as that thought crossed my mind, I heard footsteps closing in towards me and stopped right in front of the beta.

He's here.

A sense of relief fell upon me once Jay's scent filled my nose, and I lifted up my face to see him who was standing tall right there.

"Let him go," his eyes flickered down to my reddened wrist due to the hard grip of the beta, and I thought I saw his jaw clenching at the sight.

"Mind your own business, kid. He's mine," brushing off the alpha with a scoff, the beta started to pull me away past Jay.

However, before I could take another step, Jay freed me away easily from the beta and engulfed me inside his arms.

My face was buried into his chest as he secured me tight in his embrace, and I took this chance to calm down myself from the panic by taking in his scent.

"Dare to touch him again I'll make sure you regret it for the rest of your life," he suddenly used his alpha voice, emitting his pheromone, and even though it was directed to the beta, it made me trembled as well.

Knowing that he almost stepped on a landmine by trying to go head on with a way stronger person, the beta quickly fled the scene without much fight.

The surrounding went quiet after that, and as soon as I didn't feel any presence of the beta anymore, my legs finally gave away and I leaned into Jay's hold for support.

He didn't say anything, and I felt scared that he might get mad at me instead.

Keeping my mouth shut and my head down, I didn't do anything and let the alpha carried me out of the place without checking out any of the groceries I left in the trolley.

When we reached his car, I was puzzled when I noticed that instead of placing me on the co-driver seat, he carefully sat on the back seat of his car and sat me on his lap.

Hesitantly looking up to him who was already looking down at me, I felt Jay's hand gently placed at the back of my head and he pulled me to rest my face on his neck.

Feeling protected, I felt tears pooling my eyes when I heard Jay's voice next.

"It's okay to cry, Kayden. I'm here," he spoke soft, as his hand softly rubbed my back in a comforting manner.

He wasn't mad at me.

Totally feeling relieved, I let my tears down and cried my heart out while clinging tightly to Jay for quite long after that.
