Chapter 18

??Let??s change the subject,?? she suggested. ??You said you had a crisis at work.??

Listening to her talk about her pregnancy made me totally forget about my situation with Sean. I couldn??t bring it up now. Olivia, clearly, had enough to worry about without me adding my problems into the mix.

??It??s nothing,?? I told her. ??Just the usual crap with one of my students.??

??I don??t know how you can deal with those kids without cracking up.??

??It??s not easy.??

She sighed and sank back against the sofa cushions. ??Life rarely is.??

Jay came home around seven to have dinner with me before heading back to the station later for the eleven o??clock broadcast. After dinner, while we were seated in the living room not talking to each other, I decided to try and initiate some conversation.

??Olivia??s pregnant,?? I said.

Jay didn??t even look up from his newspaper. ??Really???

??Yes.??

??Who??s the father???
