Finding a job

As I walked around I noticed that all the people were staring at me. As I watched them I noticed that every one wore red clothes. Maybe thats why?

As I looked around I realized that the town was a large port city. It also seemed industrialized. The was chimnes sticking out of certain places that looked like factories. On the large building in the middle was a fire motif.

As I walked I found myself near the market. There was mainly fish being sold, but they were also some that were selling vegetables. There was one guy wearing green selling cabages.

I thought about getting something to eat. While I wasn't hungry it would be nice. As I approached realized a problem.

'I don't have any money.' I thought. 'Am I going to need a job.'

As I thought about what to do, cause I'll need money, I saw a group of soldiers walk by. With this I had an idea.

"Hey!" I shout to the group of soldiers. Hearing me they stopped and turned to look. "By chance are you guys hiring."

"We only let fire nationals join." One of them said arrogantly.

"Ooor they are strong." Another continues give the first guy a look.

"Well I am a fire bender. Does that help?" I say now ignoring the first guy.

"Well that does help, but you have to have some skill also." He explains. "Can you show us anything."

Hearing this I brought out my hand and conjured my deep blue flames. As it came to form I heard gasps.

"Jin you finish patroling!" The man says grabing around my wrist avoiding the flame. "Follow me."

As he starts to guide me out of the market he stops and shouts over his shoulder. "And leave the cabbage guy alone!"

Soon he pulled me halfway through town until we came to a tall building. He stopped at the large doors and turned to me.

"Follow me." He said sternly.

With this said he opened the door which led to a large courtyard. The yard was filled with people in armour doing a fire bending routine. We walked past them to a small building off to the side.

Instead of walking in he walked to the side to an open window. Staring out of the window was an old man with a long gray beard. His hair was done in a top. He was watching the troops go about their practicing with a scerene look.

"Captain Tadano, I have something to tell you!" The guard spoke in urgency.

Hearing the voice talking to him an annoyed look spread across his face.

"Lieutenant Zhong I can not discipline Jin about his about his behavior." The old man, Tadano, groaned out.

"No sir, It about this boy here." Zhong said pointing me.

"What did he do?" Tadano says fustrated.

"Hey... I'm sorry whats your name?" Zhong says realizing I never told him my name.

"It's David, sir." I answer politely.

"Well it nice to meet you David. I'm" mhmmm. Zhong got cut off by the captian, who at this point was visable getting fustrated.

"Right sorry captian. David would like to join the army." He explained.

"Why did you need to tell me this. You can just sign him up at the offices." Tadano said dismissively.

"But captian his he can bend blue flames." Zhong said embarrased.

Hearing this the bored and agitated look on Tadanos face disappeared. It was replaced by a solem face.

"Is that true David." He adressed me turning his piercing gaze at me.

Instead of saying anything I made a small ball of blue fire. Seeing this brought both reverance and fear. Seeing the captian began thinking of what to do.

Clearing his throat he began.

"Zhong inform the fire temple in town. They will contact the main temple. David you said you wanted to join the army right? Well enlist you immediately and train you in combat." He orders strictly.

Hearing this Zhong ran out of the courtyard. Tadano jumped out through the window. He then lead me to a ring. The soldiers current fighting upon seeing the captian stopped.

"Leave the ring." He ordered the two in the ring. They quickly left it letting him take it over. He stood at a line on the ground.

"I want to see what you can do." He says getting into a fighting stance.

"Can I use a weapon?" I ask.

Hearing this he chuckles, while everyone still around the area burst out laughing.

"This time you may but after we will teach you proper fire bending." He say's.

"Can I have a spear then?" I ask.

The laughter grows louder then before. Sighing he motions for someone to bring one. Waiting a moment they come back with it and throw it at me.

Twirling it around I found its center of balance. I got into a crouch and was ready. Seeing this Tadano smiled.

"You can go first." He said sure of himself.

Not needing to be told twice I seemed to flash. Then I appeared in front of him with my spear pointed at his neck.

Seeing this the crowd went silent. The captian backed away. He did not get flustered but got into stance again.

"Lets go again." He says.

Nodding I get back to the line.

"Lets begin." Tadano says.

He immediately shot out flame towards me. Instead of dodging I used Suns movement third form.

"Solar flare" I swing the spear horizontaly spewing a blue arc of flames outwards it. It slashed his chest and threw him back. As I went to a follow up I stopped.

He had a large gash on his chest with charred flesh around it. Soon a person ran up to check on him.

"Someone get a doctor!" The person yelled. Hearing this broke the stunned on lookers out of their trance. Soon people began moving, some to find a doctor, some went to try giving first aid, then a few surrounded me.

"I'm not getting hired am I?" I ask
