The class bell echoed through the entire school, reaching the ears of every student in the D-Class. However, no one in the class rose from their seat, and silence continued to pervade the room. The pent-up atmosphere was palpable, as if the students had yet to fully come to terms with the sudden, cruel reality.
It seemed clear that this could not go on. Until yesterday, the students in this class had viewed the school as a paradise, living lives of extravagant entertainment. But now, not only were they being stripped of their freedom, they were being relegated to the bottom of the school's social hierarchy. It was a bitter pill to swallow for students who were still growing into adulthood. How could they accept it?
The first movement came from the back row of the classroom. However, it was not from the side with Fang Li, Horikita Suzune, and Ayanokouji Kiyotaka who are near window but from the side near the classroom door.
A loud crash echoed throughout the room as one student kicked his desk, startling everyone. The perpetrator of this act was Sudou Ken, who was at the top of the girls' blacklist. With his dyed red hair and gangster-like appearance, he was also a member of the Basketball Club.
"F*ck this D-Class being the worst! Are we all defective products here?!" Sudou Ken screamed in disbelief with a violent voice.
He couldn't accept the fact that he was in the worst class, but his reasons were purely emotional. Sudou Ken was like a gangster, rude and ill-tempered, with outstanding athletic ability, but not much else. Even with all his efforts, his grades never went beyond 20 marks in all subjects, rightfully placing him in D-Class.
On the other hand, Yukimura Teruhiko, a boy with glasses and almost equal scholastic ability to Horikita Suzune, was looking at the transcript on the blackboard. His grades were enough to compete for the top rank, making him rationally unable to accept being in the worst class.
"It's unacceptable! I should be in A-Class, not the worst class!" Yukimura Teruhiko exclaimed, his face full of fury.
While some students expressed their disdain towards Sudou Ken and Yukimura Teruhiko's reactions, Kouenji Rokusuke, a tall and burly student with golden hair and an arrogant demeanor, calmly polished his nails with a nail clipper. A month ago, he had occupied an elderly seat on a bus with Fang Li.
"No matter how much you yell, the reality is still the reality. It's just embarrassing to resist. It's not pretty at all," Kouenji Rokusuke said, with an air of superiority.
His words further ignited Sudou Ken's anger, but Ike Kanji and Yamauchi Haruki quickly intervened to prevent him from acting impulsively.
Yukimura Teruhiko also challenged Kouenji Rokusuke, warning him that if he failed the next midterm exam, he would be dropped out of school. However, Kouenji Rokusuke confidently replied that he was perfect and had no weaknesses, urging them not to judge him by there limited common sense.
As everyone shifted their attention to the blackboard, they were surprised to find Kouenji Rokusuke's name at the top, with scores high enough to compete with Horikita Suzune and Yukimura Teruhiko.
Yukimura Teruhiko couldn't believe what he was seeing as he asked, "Since your academic ability is so high, don't you feel unconvinced? How could it be like that? You were assigned to the D-Class. There is no protection for future employment."
However, Kouenji Rokusuke remained unfazed by the question, continuing to polish his nails without even looking up. He responded, "What about it? I recognize, identify, respect, and admire myself more than anyone else. I am a great person, even if the school didn't give me an 'A' evaluation, it doesn't hold any significance for me. Even if I had to drop out of school, I would do whatever I want, because I wouldn't be the one crying - it would be the school."
It wasn't surprising that Kouenji Rokusuke was so arrogant considering he was the only child of the Kouenji chaebol, which was Japan's second-to-none financial tycoon. With high status in the financial, business, and social circles, and relationships with many leaders of the country, Kouenji Rokusuke felt that he had no need for the school's assistance with further studies and employment. He explained, "In the future, I would inherit the Kouenji chaebol. It doesn't matter whether I am in the A-Class or the D-Class."
Kouenji Rokusuke's arrogance and defiance towards the school left everyone, including Yukimura Teruhiko and Sudou Ken, angry and frustrated, but they couldn't do anything about it. Sudou Ken even vented his anger by slamming a chair, further deteriorating the atmosphere of the entire classroom.
Hirata Yousuke seemed to want to do something in this situation, but it didn't concern Fang Li, who had left the classroom with Ayanokouji Kiyotaka. However, Horikita Suzune was still in the classroom.
