L: Guarding a Future
Lief pulled himself out of his bed with effort. He wasn't getting enough rest. He knew that probably no one else in Eks Corp Headquarters was getting enough rest either.
Before Brendan and Rafaela had arrived, he had thought that he had done a lot of preparation. At one point he had even believed that he was going overboard. He had personally vetted nearly every Eks Corp officer aboard the station.
Now, he felt like he hadn't done enough.
The refresher spat him out a few minutes later, looking clean and neat. Unfortunately it couldn't actually remove the fatigue. He wondered if he should have slept in a medical unit instead, like the King and Queen.
The devices could artificially remove many of the poisonous waste products that could create a feeling of fatigue, and restore nutrient balances. But in a way, that artificial relief could also compound the damage that not letting yourself rest could do to a person, if it were misused.
